Comments Thread For: Cancio, Santa Cruz And the Sordid WBA 130-Pound Title History

Andrew Cancio looks to continue to the feel good story of 2019, but doesn't at all feel good about the manner in which he's being passed over for an upgraded title status. The dual-occupational 130-pound titlist-who holds a full time job with the Southern California Gas Company-is at the tail end of training camp for a Nov. 23 rematch with Rene Alvarado, which will mark his second attempted defense. The bout takes place in Indio, California, on the same night as will a 130-pound clash between now former three-division titlist Leo Santa Cruz and Miguel Flores at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I don’t care what anyone says. The WBA is the worst of the worst. Closely followed by the WBC. Which is funny because they’re considered the 2 more prestigious.

Not shocked these belts just need to go. Two WBA "title" fights in the same division on the same night. What a damn joke.

Does anybody really look forward to Santa Cruz fights? Skilled fighter, sure. Lackluster career tho. Haven't seem him take a challenging fight since the second Frampton fight.

In this specific case, a guy like Cancio who has an actual job beside boxing could actually use the clout & money associated with the "Super" WBA Title unlike Leo who already made good money and has an upcoming PPV fight with Tank (we all know this fight is coming up).

I’m with you. I don’t get it. He named his son after Al, and it’s obvious Al takes very good care of him. But his career has been trash because of it.

very good article. very important to cover this. in context of utterly
corrupt WBA, this is an especially good screwing of a beltbolder.

                CORRECTION:
machado didnt leave the ring as the regular champion. he left the ring the super champion but they wouldnt give him his belt. they made him “regular” champ & let davis fight cuellar for machados belt.

                scumbags

very good article. the author is wrong on that particular point, but cancio is correct.
