Gvozdyk was not 100%
Maybe I'm in denial but I don't think it was the best Gvozdyk. Something was amiss. I don't know whether it was his timing or something else.
Couple of observations:
- Gvozdyk was landing freely on Beterbiev but not visibly hurting him
- predictably you could see Beterbiev had heavier hands
- Beterbiev showed more variety than in previous fights
- Beterbiev showed very good chin
- I think Gvozdyk was disheartened as he saw he couldn't hurt Beterbiev with some flush punches
Gvozdyk was gassed earlier than half way of the fight. For me it was surprising and I don't know if it was Beterbiev's pressure or his lack of conditioning.
- because while Gvozdyk was moving, he boxed well and won more rounds than Beterbiev
- as soon as he became stationery Beterbiev started hurting him
Plus the knock downs were not flush punches that knock you out. It was more a mixture of accumulated punishment and exhaustion from Gvozdyk.
Also it seems Gvozdyk did not have a good plan and Beterbiev quite the opposite.
Specifically Gvozdyk likes to throw his right cross over the left jabbing hand of opponent. It wasn't the silver bullet here with Beterbiev.
Gvozdyk also did not invest much punching into the body. While Beterbiev did well to the body.
