We still don't even know for sure whether he'll even fight again. If he elected to retire from boxing following this, surely you couldn't say he's being unreasonable, right? Even without any broken bones, this isn't something you just brush off, surely. If it were me, I doubt I'd still be willing to put my body up to the rigors of training and fighting after enduring the ravages of a car crash, although maybe that mindset is why I'm not a professional boxer myself.
If he still wants to fight, I think he needs the best part of a year to fully recover if not more. If he does something like that, he should probably vacate his belts. It seems like a valid opportunity to declare Spence "champion emeritus" guaranteeing a shot at the belts upon his return, but while I know that the WBC allows it I don't know if the IBF does - knowing them, I kind of doubt it. No matter which way you approach it I doubt that Spence's next fight will be against a threatening opponent, no matter when that may be. And as critical of him as I've been for not fighting the best until Porter, in this case it'd be perfectly understandable.Comment
