Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev Aims To Capture More Gold at 175

It was a savage light heavyweight battle that lived up to the Philadelphia billing. Artur Beterbeiv, in a back-a-forth affair, knocked out Oleksandr Gvozdyk in the 10th round to unify the WBC/IBF light heavyweight titles Saturday evening at the Liacouras Center.

Great fight, Beterbiev is a force. Kovalev was lucky to fight Canelo. Bet Canelo grabs that title and runs back down to 168.

Big reassessment due on my part. After watching that performance I don't see anyone troubling Betrbiev at 175 if he can repeat that.
No sign of ageing yet - he is still in his prime.
      He has quick feet
His best defence is his mental processing speed - he anticipated most of the Nail's moves.
      Fantastic chin
      Great stamina
      Fantastic concentration and focus
      Great offence.

I thought he was just a skilled slugger but he is a powerful boxer/puncher.

Kovalev now has nothing to withstand the barrage of attacks, I'm not even sure peak Kov would beat last night's Beterbiev
Bivol is a better boxer than Govozdyk but has seemingly less power. Maybe he can run from the Beast all night but he won't win a decision like that.

Who else? no-one I can see. Canelo won't fancy that and won't put a dent on Beterbiev

Interesting how one standout performance can change perceptions about a whole weight class. Similar to Ward shaking things up at 168 with his Kessler performance

If Canelo beats Kovalev I see that title getting vacated. Would Kovalev have another shot right away to win it back? I think the 2 people I’d like to see Beterbiev fight the most is Zurdo Ramirez and Eleider Alvarez. Would love either of those fights

Beterbiev did well last night, but IMO he'd have had much more of a handful if Gvozdyk worked on landing stacks of body shots. Still stunned as why he didn't do that. When you're fighting someone with exceptional power, you HAVE to weaken their offense with body shots over and over til they fold or stop firing regularly. Gvozdyk definitely has some work ahead, to get in gear to continue his career. A Yarde comeback fight and maybe 2-3 top 10 guys, then maybe another title shot. Like I've said elsewhere, IMO Kovalev will be the most dangerous for Beterbiev, if for no other reason than he dedicates his attack with a bunch of body shots. But he also has a world class strong jab. He could get caught by Beterbiev, always a possibility. But I think he would give Artur all he could handle in a solid fight start to finish.

Ward vs Beterbiev makes a good mythical match-up. Rough stuff on the inside.

I think Gvozdyk did not go down to the body because he didn't want to expose himself to any more head shots. Beterbiev's power punches and pressure just overwhelmed
              Gvozdyk.

How these sanctioning bodies come up with a mandatory like Fanlong a guy only his mother knows beat no one is mind boggling. Unless China giving huge $ envelope.

Beterbiev's most impressive feature is his mental strength. He just doesn't stop coming, whatever one throws at him. The opponent gets exhausted both physically and psychologically.

don't see Ward having the power to trouble Beterbiev. He'd need to hit low every round
