Comments Thread For: Rozier Prepares Derevyanchenko For Strategic War With GGG

By Thomas Gerbasi - This weekend's goal is clear for Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Beat one of the best fighters in the sport - Gennadiy Golovkin - and leave Madison Square Garden with a pair of middleweight title belts. And while it wouldn't be fair or accurate to say that Derevyanchenko's trainer Andre Rozier is even more...

I bought my first pair of Havoc trunks from Andre in 2003 as an amateur. That's how far back I go with knowing Andre. So to all the pros that say Andre takes forever to get your trunks ready, I know the feeling. I've seen Andre coach multiple fighters to within inches of winning a title, and a few have actually won the title they were competing for. I love Andre, from the bottom of my heart as a New York Coach. I love seeing him on tv as much as I love seeing Steve Willis who reffed some of my amateur fights. But if you want to talk about a technical matchup, and overcoming in a technical matchup with a proven champion like Triple G. I hope you did your homework with not only the opponent, but with your own fighter. There is no reason for Curtis Steven's to tap his foot on the toe like hes done with numerous fighters in his boxing mode. There is no reason for Danny Jacob's to start off slow when he is in the fight of his life against Canelo. So there should be no mistake for GGG to exploit on Derevyanchenko. All of these things are noticeable to less than casual fight fan. I always put my support behind Andre. Being a coach from I have noticed during a time when I was growing in this sport. So Coach Andre. Please explore all angles. Negatively and positively. Best of luck on fight night.

I hope that doesn't mean he's going to just be pot shotting and moving and not willing to stand and trade because that's what I'm excited about this fight.
Seeing both guys throwing combos with slick movement and defence.

That's exactly what he's gonna do. He stays in front of GGG, he's toast.

I can't wait for this one!

GGG is getting old and I'm curious to gauge what he has left.

It's not a war it's a win that Derev is after and taking pot shots and moving is his best avenue. If Derev doesn't get tired he has a good chance at a decision win.

This fight that will show where Golovkin is at this stage in his career.

Perfect fight to gauge what GGG has left in the tank. Also to see if he fights any different with Banks in his corner. He showed a little bounce in his step against Rolls and few other little wrinkles in his game briefly. Then he got hit with a few shots and said "f-ck this" and went back to Abel mode and got him outta there.

I think at this point in his career G needs to have that balance of Banks and Abel's styles in order to continue being successful. He can't just fight one way for a while 12 anymore.

I noticed with Banks, he's bouncing on his toes, throwing a better variety of punches at a slightly faster speed and moving his head a little. But he's not sitting down on his punches because his feet aren't set. With Abel he had no bounce at all, was flat footed but had good foot work and always had his feet planted to throw bombs. He's gotta fight that happy medium somewhere

So far what I've seen on interviews and articles it looks like Rozier is gonna make Derevyanchenko actually fight like "The Technician", I think Sergy is gonna be high output, non stop moving and gonna jab a lot.

I think it's a good strategy the thing is how will he respond when he gets hit, if he can take GGG's punches and have monster cardio he can make a very difficult fight for GGG.

                    Really good fight.
