Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz: After Wilder Loses - Forget Franchise, Just Call Me Champ

The recent decision by the World Boxing Council (WBC) to assign a "Franchise champion" tag to World middleweight champ Saul Canelo' Alvarez has created confusion among what any longer qualifies as a title or unification bout. Among the other WBC titlists named by the sanctioning body as future candidates for the label is unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder, who with his next win will record his 10th successful title defense. A date has yet to be assigned for such a fight, which reportedly will come in the form of a rematch with top-rated contender Luis Ortiz.

“The out of business champion?br /> That is pretty funny and scarily it’s not implausible to think they’d create such a title someday soon hahaha

No doubt the 'Bronze-Bomber' Deontay Wilder is worthy of being honored as the HW 'Franchise' champion. Deontay is literally making history ; with another successful defense of the most prestigious HW title ( WBC ) Wilder is adding 10 straight defenses -- equaling the great Mohammed Ali and surpassing overrated Mike Tyson.

Deontay Wilder is light-years ahead of any modern day champion. Luis Ortiz, you aint stopping this train headed into the HOF. BOMBSQUAD!!!

Ortiz always talks the best **** for someone who doesn’t know any English. Either he’s witty as hell, or his translator has a way with words

Wilder is probably the most notable hw champ right now. With AJ out and Fury just "lineal", Wilder is on top.
