Comments Thread For: Oleksandr Usyk is Named as WBC "Champion in Recess"

Unbeaten Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs) has been relieved of another world title, but the World Boxing Council is not letting im go that easily. The WBC board of governors has unanimously voted in favor to grant Usyk the status of "champion in recess" - which the sanctioning body says is to allow him to recover from his recent injury and to support him in his attempt to compete in the heavyweight division.

I think itd be pretty cool to see Ruiz vs. Usyk for all the belts 1 day. Skill wise Usyk is the ONLY HW that can match Andys skill.

        Wrong division

WBC must not think he is serious about being HW or maybe he is having second thoughts

The protection continues, why? Does this means they can’t rank him at HW? This is questionable.

I forgot how long Vitali Klitschko was champion in recess. I know it was years.

              WBC loves doing this.

I see Usyk as more skilled than Ruiz - taller, more mobile, equally fast hands, longer reach - its hard to see how Ruiz would beat him. Usyk made the mistake of getting in Gassiev's range early on in their fight, but it was a mistake he didn't make again through the rest of the fight, and Gassiev is taller and longer than Ruiz.

Usyk would fight the way Joshua SHOULD have fought (and maybe will in the rematch). When all is said and done, if you have the range on Ruiz, only way he can beat you is if you play to his strengths, ie get close enough that he can let his hands go.

In my book, Ajagba beats Ruiz - take a look at Ajagba's jab, one of the best in the business. All Joshua did was tickle him with a feather duster, which let him walk forward.

Briedis and Glowacki fighting for it?

Btw I saw an interview with Loma today where he said Usyk didn't work with his father fir what I assume is the Briedis fight. He said 'close fight', and that that was the reason why that fight was so close. He said with his father that wouldn't have happened

I think the WBC is just doing WBC sh^t.

And this jump in weight is on the top two in boxing (up there with 175 to 200) so a high failure rate is more normal for previous #1 guys moving up to a new division.
