What is Canelo's Biggest Strength as a Fighter? I Say Head Movement

If there is one ability that I think Canelo excels at to a high degree, it's his head movement. I love the way he slips punches from the outside and sometimes, he rolls with shots too which is a highly valuable skill since no one can avoid every punch but you can take the steam off the ones that land.

Canelo also works the body well and has proven that he can fight going forward or backward. His chin obviously is solid as well and some of that is in part to his defense but I think he takes a hell of a shot anyways. So the chances of him being KO'd aren't very high now, although if he moves up high enough, that can change.

Either way, I'm no expert at all and would love to hear you guys' answers. What's Canelo's biggest strength or strengths in the ring?

Positioning. Moving to the right place at the right time.

      I think it's Mexican beef.

... also: upper body movement, ring IQ, a wide selection of punches... actually the " biggest strength" results from a combination of "strengths"...

I've read Dougie Fischer singing praise for his punch selection. Do you think his punches vary more than most others? He definitely doesn't seem what many would call basic with ja, right hand and jab, right hand over and over.

RingIQ...his IQ is off the charts. He can adjust to many different styles fight to fight and even mid fight.

I really think his ring IQ has to be his biggest asset yet. He is very underrated in that part. The last fighter that i see that calm is Mayweather, now i see that in Canelo. With Canelo i started seeing it after the Mayweather fight.

Can you give me a specific example of his adjustments? I'm asking purely out of wanting to know. Not questioning you one bit, man. I appreciate your input!

Yeah, Mayweather always seemed calm in the ring. That's very admirable. I would agree. Canelo appears calm in every round no matter what's going on. I think this is why a loss can truly benefit a young fighter and make them better.

Can you give a specific example of when you thought he displayed great ring IQ and why? I'm not questioning you. Just would like more input. Great post!

He definitely isn't the typical left jab and right hand sort of guys, this is why i like him, watching the HW for example (AJ/Wilder and Fury to a point).. You know their punch selection, left, left and then boom they throw the right hand.

With Canelo, it's just different and am trying not to become a massive fan because of that "Tainted beef" thing. But i just love watching him, the same way i use to with Mayweather.
