I have no doubt it'll be an impressive number just cuz of all the UK guys who fly over for it. If its more than, or hell close to, Canelo vs Jacobs that'd be an amazing US debut for gate numbers obviously.

The ticket prices for the two fights are actually very, very similar.

Canelo/Jacobs: $105, $205, $305, $405, $605, $805, $1,205, $1,505, $2,505, plus taxes

Joshua/Ruiz: $106, $156, $206, $306, $406, $506, $756, $1,006, $1,256 and $2,506, plus taxes

Jesus Christ I didn't know Joshua's tickets in NY were that high. No wonder only the UK fans are buying them and they've added a Mexican American to push sales.

So Canelo only sold 15,000+ tickets? And only 600,000 buys for dazn in the USA? And I’m supposed to believe that he is somehow the biggest draw in the sport? Im inclined to agree with the folks back home in England, Joshua is a much bigger cash cow in England than Canelo is in the USA. And at they sure that gate sold tipped the 47,000+ for the Spence jr-Garcia fight?
This is in no way good news for dazn, if this is all they can muster putting Canelo in with what was supposed to be the toughest opponent not named golovkin. Dazn is losing money on Canelo, big time.

For your info, Joshua might be a bigger draw in England than Canelo is in the US ( which I doubt ) but that could be because you need to add the fans in Mexico, where Canelo is from...duh.

I don't understand how dropping to $8.7 mil from $27 mil is considered a box office success. Is this still prime Canelo Alvarez we are talking about?

That's almost a $20 mil loss in revenue at the gate. Unless Ginger is past his prime and on a decline; How could that even remotely be considered a box office success when compared to his previous box office successes?.

Also, the total gross revenue for his last appearance at the T-mobile arena in his rematch with GGG generated a gross revenue of $117 mil. However, his last fight at the T-Mobile arena according to the article against Daniel Jacobs generated a gross revenue of only $57 mil.

What am I missing because these numbers compared to his earlier numbers don't seem great to me. Also, the paid attendance was down from 27,000 in the GGG rematch to just 15,000 in the Jacobs fight.

I just don't get it.

That's because GGG was the one fans actually cared about. He was the one chasing greatness the whole time. He was the one who was a potential ATG middleweight in his prime. He was the one chasing Sergio, Canelo, Cotto, Froch, etc, the whole time, being ducked. He was the one fighting 3-4x a year getting knockouts every single time including vs multiple top 5 middleweights. He was the one with the charisma who people were invested in.

But as usual, the "Boxing Establishment" prioritized nationality above everything else and seemed to say to itself, "Well Canelo is the Mexican one, so he must be the one fans like, he's the one we have to protect." In reality, most fans watching only cared about GGG. Only the LDBC and some Mexicans were rooting primarily based on nationality, but most people living in the USA with TV sets are not Mexican or LDBC members.

Boxing ******ed, I mean " logic "...listen you must live in North Dakota or a place like that. Get this inside your head...Mexican boxers and Latinos in general are well-known and have huge fan bases in the US and outisde...GGG had to be nicknamed the guy with " Mexican style " to sell, he is very good and had many Mexicans fans but itīs not that he was the face of boxing and no, the people didnīt pay to see him all the time.And yes, people with TV sets that watch boxing ARE Mexican or Hispanic...get over it

That's misleading they are not that close because the quantity of each price range are not the same. One of the biggest criticsm fans have for Canelo fights is they list the low end ticket prices but ask anyone who has bought his Vegas tickets or tried to buy tickets there is basically no tickets available lower then 500 bucks. Because they issue so few. Canelo Jacobs listed prices starting at 100 bucks to trick fans thinking prices are affordable then you end up spending 500-1000 for tickets. Its like black Friday they advertise a 60 inch TV for $60 in all the fliers everyone shows up they have only 5 in stock. Once you in the door they sell you similar TVs For $400.

For example GGG/Jacobs at MSG also had tickets that start at 100 bucks the difference is they had large quantity of those lower end prices which is why the fight only did 3.7M in revenue while Canelo/Jacobs did 8.7M. trust me Joshua live gate will not be anywhere near 8.7M.

A few comps GGG vs Jacobs did a live gate of 3.7M. Canelo vs that same opponent just did almost 9M. The only other PPV fighter fought in Vegas earlier this year and drew 6M and that was with Pacquiao and Broner who are each both bigger draws then Jacobs and those 2 combined did less then Canelo did.

Jacobs vs Peter Quillen (his biggest fight before he fought GGG) they never released the live gate numbers because the attendance was so terrible drawing just 8K in attendance and that number includes thousands of free comps they gave out and that was in his own hometown.

Canelo is competing against himself nobody else is doing anywhere near these numbers.

365 mill - 8 mill = 357 mill before break even. Wow, looks good.
