Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz Emerges as Frontrunner in Joshua Sweepstakes

Promoter Eddie Hearn insists that the current short list of replacement opponents to face unbeaten, unified heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua is down to four names. Andy Ruiz is hoping it soon whittles down to one-his own. The once-beaten heavyweight contender enjoyed his PBC debut in the best possible way. Ruiz scored a 5th round knockout win over Alexander Dimitrenko live on Fox last Saturday and then shortly emerged as a front runner to land a coveted title crack at Joshua on June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Both Ortiz and Ruiz better stay ready. Ruiz is probably the readier of the two. If they choose him, Ortiz better stay ready too. Injuries happen.

I hope though that they give this fight to Ortiz who is at the twilight of his career. This is why I respect Deontay Wilder. The dude is willing to share in the bounty and actually realises that people have personal circumstances and cannot be judged merely by their boxing act. Ortiz needs to take care of his daughter. Joshua must give him this chance.

He did give him the chance...and he turned it down for 'financial reasons' even though he mentioned that he would fight AJ for almost any sum.

When your offered a chance at 3 world titles and being offered a purse far bigger than your largest to date, you take the damn fight. No two ways about it. When opportunity strikes - go grab that.

Anyone got any idea who's the "couple other guys" are that Hearn mentioned by association, but refused to name, that could be in the running?

Was looking at the rankings & here's all the US guys.

        Kownacki is possible I suppose.

Trevor Bryan could be in the running in spite of Don King's silly ass remarks.

Fres Oquendo don't wanna fight nobody as is.

Andy Ruiz is in the running.

Michael Hunter is in the running.

Luis Ortiz was/is in the running.

Tyrone Sprong I kinda dig as an option cuz I'm a fan, but he had a bad performance last time out so I could see him in or out of the running.

Bryant Jennings he just took an L, but he's still ranked, but the KO loss isn't a good look so I doubt he's in the running.

So I'd think Bryan & Kownacki would be the most likely unnamed guys.

Kownacki was possibly the first fighter to rule himself out.

His appearance would count against him. Casuals would see him as a joke. Even though he might put up a better fight than Hunter. And to be honest I wouldn’t blame them for judging him in that way.

              Surely you are trolling here?

Hmmm. Who the f#ck is Hearn implying then? Bryan is a solid bet I'd assume. Maybe Sprong then.

I can't imagine Oquendo or Jennings are in play.

I think Andy is gonna get the fight.

I felt he got robbed vs. Parker, so I'm glad that he hit jackpot this time.

Ruiz although a decent fighter looks more like 'Butterbean'.

Hearn is putting some of his 'names' on the card but against who! Hearn should seriously consider pulling another show as I'm sure Joshua will still want his £20m and Hearn will still want his PPV. For what is turning out four weeks out to be a joke!
