Robert Garcia: Definitely. I think he’s a welterweight from now on. He’s already built his body to that division. Maybe 140 if a huge fight appeared at 140. But all the big fights are at 147 anyway, so I think it would be at 147, and eventually maybe even challenging for another title at 154. I know Mikey has that in mind and he’d probably move up to challenge another champion at 154. It’s obviously not in my mind right now, but eventually I know that’s what Mikey would want.
All the Mikey fans said it wasn't a duck because he would fight Loma after. How is he going to fight Loma after at 147 or 154? He could have fought Loma, won, then gotten twice as much money to fight Spence and move up to welterweight as the new face of boxing, #1 P4P, undisputed lightweight champ moving up. THAT'S a legacy. THAT is how you put your name next to Robert Duran. Instead, he chose to never fight Loma, chose to time things in the exact specific way to where he would never have to fight Loma or even be asked about fighting Loma again after this.
It's a straight duck. Mikey didn't want to fight the fast Gamboa, now he ducked the fast Loma. Seems Mikey knows he has trouble with speed and skill and chooses slower opponents like Spence on purpose. I'm guessing he will never fight Crawford but then again, Crawford was hurt badly even by little Gamboa, lost 4 straight rounds vs Gamboa, and obviously due to size would be favored to KO Loma if they fought but up until the KO came, he would likely lose every round to the more skilled smaller as fast but far more technical Loma.
So even Mikey fighting Crawford is not the same. It's almost as difficult because of the size, but Mikey is big too. It's not as difficult on the skill level and that's what Mikey seems to be afraid of. Plus Jose Benavidez with one good leg clipped Crawford good and stunned him a bit multiple times, so Mikey's puncher's chance would have a way better shot at landing vs Crawford than Loma, as Gamboa also proved multiple times. Even Horn caught Crawford a few times.
So I could see Mikey fighting Crawford for that reason, but I still don't expect it. He seems to know he's not good vs speed so he's fighting only the styles beneficial to him. Probably the real reason he left Arum. Man, the parallels between Mikey and Floyd in every way except skills are scary.
