I can't help but think if boxing did away with judges, it would be FAR more popular than it is.
When I was a young boy that was supposed to be in bed for school but stayed up super late, I was absolutely shocked when the first Holyfield-Lewis fight was ruled a draw. I couldn't believe it. Lewis couldn't believe it either when he stood in the middle of the ring with a look of total confusion. Hell, even Holyfield looked like he it shouldn't have been a draw.
Can't forget Mayweather and Castillo first fight. Although not as one sided of a beating as the lewis holyfield fight, but still pretty clear on who the winner was.
And now here we are back to the same bs nearly 20 years later.... GGG clearly won the first fight, but the judges ruled it a draw????
And those are just the big fights I mentioned. I can't help but wonder how many of the lower tier bouts where up and coming fighters got robbed.
How in the hell is boxing as a whole supposed to retain/gain fans if it all comes down to what three judges think?
