Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Details Golden Boy's Future, The Business of Boxing

By Thomas Gerbasi - It's been nearly ten years since Oscar De La Hoya last stepped into the ring as an active fighter against Manny Pacquiao, enough time to continue his transition into life as a promoter while producing pay-per-view events without his name on the marquee. But as he gets ready for the latest event bearing Golden Boy Promotions' stamp...

I predict Vergil Ortiz will have a better career then Ryan Garcia.
I like both of them but I've saw too many weaknesses in Ryan in his last two fights.
Hope he gets a new trainer who can teach him new fundamentals and some defense.
But I wish nothing but the best for both Ryan and Vergil.

I like VO alot he has the goods. I agree with your assessment. Golden boy needs to sign Mikey Garcia. Then they can work on a super deal with any network. Having Canelo, Mikey, VO, and Ryan Garcia would be dope af.

I agree but I don't think Mikey wants to sign with anyone and I don't think he ever will..

Canelo vs Golovkin and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. selling a combined 2.5 million pay-per-views that made over 200 million dollars in revenue , DAMN !!!!

Unfortunately, GBP doesn’t seem to comprehend that their 2 best prospects are Alexis Rocha and Vergil Ortiz not Garcia. Rocha is an extremely underrated prospect @ 147 lbs the kid has the speed and power to compete w/t anyone at welterweight. Give Rocha a few yrs under the tutelage of a good trainer like Roach or Garcia and the kid will be a champ @ 147lbs.

ODLH: "We're actually looking at (Canelo) fighting in December once again in Las Vegas or here at the (MS) Garden."

              ... well: that's good news!...

Except Canelo is basically a one or two fight a year guy now. De La Hoya says every year that they're looking to have Canelo fight in December in NY. It will never happen. May/September, May/September, rinse, repeat.

Usually, you're right. However, Canelo did not fight in May this year. Golden Boy's whole business model is based on getting Canelo out twice a year, they need that revenue. I think he'll be back this December against Spike.

When your high school buddy that used to set up chairs in the venue runs the company, unfortunately not much of a future for the company.
