These people on here are idiots!!!! It's the same thing people do during superbowl week. Everybody is going to be there so you make your big announcements there! And you get way more people besides the run of the mill boxing writers.

Fury shouldn't be within a mile of a WBC title shot until he's at least beaten a top 10 ranked contender.
Fury had the IBF, WBA and WBO straps, and lost them all outside of the ring.

Find me another boxer in that situation who didn't get a title shot on his return.

or were you furious when Vitali got to immediately fight Sam Peter for the WBC belt after being inactive for four years? Or Ali taking two lackluster tune ups before fighting Frasier?

quarry and bonavena were both top 10 guys. quarry was a top 3 guy. fury fought the billionth and trillionth ranked guys in his return.

wow, you're right. I had no idea Quarry was ranked so high (Ring had him at #3 that year) which blows my mind. Though Mac Foster was #4, so I guess it was a pretty big drop off after Frazier, Ali and Foreman. Even in 1970 I probably would have put Earnie Terrell ahead of some of the names in the top 10 and Floyd Patterson in 1970 beats Henry Cooper of that year 10 times out of 10 IMO.

So, again, the "biggest fight at heavyweight" needs to piggyback off some middleweight fight? Meanwhile the Joshua vs Povetkin fight is slowly creeping towards a sellout in Wembley. I can tell you now, this fight will not happen.

If that's the case it will be Fury looking the fool not Deontay.

They’ll make the formal announcement in Las Vegas before Canelo-GGG with all the world boxing press there (including ESPN and other media that aren’t boxing-only). Probably bring both guys in for a face-off and a day’s worth of interviews. Max exposure. Plus it takes even more shine off the big (lol) Anthony Johnson fight coming a week later.
