Gassiev vs Usyk in jeopardy. Gassiev may fight Tabiti on July 21st in Russia instead.

boxingtalk has been informed that undefeated WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev, 26-0 (19), will now likely face Andrew Tabiti, 16-0 (13) on July 21st in Russia. Gassiev was slated to face undefeated WBO and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk in the World Boxing Super Series final to unify the division, but negotiations have hit a serious snag and as of now Gassiev-Tabiti is far more likely. Remember where you heard it first! 8:07 PM EST (6/12/18)
    per Michael Benson twitter

Tabiti is a beast too so its not too bad i guess.

This would be a disaster. What is the snag? This is boxings best fight this year, they've got to do everything to preserve it and make sure it happens. The WBSS at Cruiserweight will be absolutely meaningless if it's not Usyk-Gassiev.

Best fight of the year is in jeopardy. I'll take this over AJ/Wilder and GGG/Canelo anyday.

Yeah that's the place i want it to happen to but according to the poster asgarth, Germany isn't big on boxing anymore.

The Saudis are busy torturing their women. They never put in the effort to bring it to the kingdom. Russia put in the most money to bring it to Russia but Usyk won't fight in Russia due to political reason. So Usyk maybe out then Tabiti to replace him.

That's a really big statement to make. I want to see this fight badly but won't take it over AJ/Wilder.

I've got no issue with Usyk refusing to fight in Russia, he shouldn't have to. That still leaves London, New York, Berlin etc as options and there's no reason that the organisers shouldn't be able to make that happen.

If one guy rightly doesn't want to fight in Russia then just have it somewhere else. This ruins the tournaments credibility severely. Usyk was under the impression it was in Saudi Arabia and then to be told it's in Russia given the politics involved.

Not cool. Not surprised either. Had a feeling a few months back this match-up was dead.

Everything depends on the contract signed between Usyk and WBSS.
I guess no one here has seen it.
Obviously WBSS will earn much more if the cruiserweight final will happen in Russia.
Usyk may have his opinion where fights should be happening, but professional boxing is a showbusiness.
