The reality is that AJ could line up 3/4 fights that will make him 20+ million pounds each, here's what will happen if Wilder doesn't accept. AJ/Povetkin (huge money fight), AJ/Miller (meh), AJ/Whyte (mandatory in spring, huge fight), AJ/Fury (the biggest fight in boxing by next Summer).

AJ is set and can easily make 100 million in the next year to 15 months.

Wilder has much less to play with as AJ will command all the biggest names, no one will fight Wilder in the U.S for chump change if they can fight AJ instead. It will be interesting to see what Wilder's next 3 fights are if the AJ fight doesn't happen, lets hope they can sort it out before the deadline or even after their next fights.

"Wilder's handlers have presented a guaranteed offer of $50 million to get Joshua to the United States.

In a prior interview, Joshua said he would take the fight - if $50 million was offered to him.

But, after thinking it over, Joshua said he was comfortable with taking a pay cut in order to do the fight in the UK
      - and he's pretty firm on having the fight in the UK."

And he should do it in Vegas.

It’s clear team Joshua is trying to age Wilder and wait until he’s 49 to fight because they’re scared.

But I think by then that glass jaw if AJ will get cracked before the fight even happens.
Wilder's only 32. They'd have to wait for about 4 years realistically at which point any chance of unifying the division will have gone.

I'm still hopeful that the fight gets made

None of those names are champions though.
My first prediction was that the fight would happen not next, but after their next fights so I'm still on track for that. If you're defending not unifying the belts for 4-5 fights from now, and the guy considered by most to be #2 in the division, then what are you doing? As a boxing fan you don't get to spend any of his millions.

That's a damned good point. If this fight doesn't get made it will leave Wilder in a really weak position. What big names would take on Wilder for $2m when they could fight AJ for 3/4/5 times as much? He'll just end up eating mandatories which few people will be interested in and struggling to get the really big names into the ring (without taking a pay cut on what is already a fairly small pot).

Team Wilder need to make this fight happen because:

if they lose - they still make their biggest payday (we know it's gonna be $12.5 at the very least so a split representing $20m is likely to be negotiable). Wilder still has a very entertaining style so a loss is unlikely to dramatically affect his future earning potential.

if they win - they've just been given the keys to the money factory and Wilder becomes one of the biggest names in sports.

As I see it Here's what Team Wilder need to do:
Make it very clear that they're willing to travel to the UK to fight then if Hearn doesn't give them a fair offer take it to the public again. If Hearn tries to low-ball then AJ's reputation (and Hearn's) will be tarnished.

But to be clear, the risk-reward factor being as it is, Wilder shouldn't worry about breaking the bank with this fight - he should be thinking about the potential riches he'll make if he wins (making history in the process).

I know some people will cry about this because it will sound like I'm backing Hearn (which I wouldn't do); but I would have taken the $12.5m offer and just said

"I'mma knock your ass out and then I'll be the ruler of the division"

AJ would have been legally locked down to a contract and if AJ had squirmed a way out of the fight whilst being under contract then he would be exposed as a ducker to the whole world... ergo he would be forced to fight and Wilder would have his shot at making history and making bank. Personally, I think AJ is willing to fight anyway, but it would guarantee the fight which Wilder has been talking about being desperate for for so long

And lets be honest Wilder is the man most likely to upset Joshua because of his power. It reminds me of Jeff Lacy forcing a showdown with Calzaghe to go back a few years, and we know how that ended but this is two different men.

He's talking about the relative bargaining positions of Wilder and Joshua - not necessarily advocating that they don't fight each other. Essentially he's saying that Joshua will have his pick of the fights if the AJ/Wilder fight doesn't get made; which is true and should impact on Wilder's desire to get the AJ fight made. Possibly the smart business move would be to be willing to take a lesser split than anticipated.

Saying that the other names aren't champions is kind of a moot point when there are only two champions and they won't fight each other (hypothetically speaking)

I was really starting to change my opinion and consider that this fight might be made next. But it looks like both parties are content to drag things out and build the fight into a mega fight rather than just getting it made now to decide who the top dog is.
To be honest I don't really have a problem with that and I'm willing to wait for one (ABSOLUTE MAX two, depending on the circumstances) more fights each before making it because I want the fight to be the biggest event possible. I want it to be a history making fight and a global event that I can tell my kids about.

Imagine a world. It's a world very much like this one, almost identical in fact, but with one very significant difference. In the world I speak of the story on the opening page of this thread began:

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman is taking a vow of silence and has decided to keep his mouth shut on matters that don't concern him.
It's a happy world. Wars are ending, poverty is rapidly being eradicated. Humanity reaches for a new life amongst the stars, happy in the knowledge that they will never again have to hear from this man.

This fight not happening anytime soon, both sides say they want the fight, but won’t take the risk to make it happen

At least they were able to make the first fight with Canelo and GGG, that rematch now in jeopardy.

                      Good point.

Although, it's more to do with the fact, he's head up Haymon's culo and any of his fighters.
