Comments Thread For: Santa Cruz-Mares: A Look Back at Crosstown LA Rivalries

The first Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares clash, a candidate for "Fight of the Year" in 2015, was a hard fought crosstown Los Angeles battle for supremacy in the featherweight division won by Santa Cruz via a 12-round majority decision at STAPLES Center on August 29.

Man I have a real bad feeling about this one. Santa Cruz doesn't look like his usual self in training. He looks sluggish and just no into it like he was for the Frampton rematch.

Meanwhile Abner Mares is having the best training camp of his career according to everybody around him.

This has trilogy written all over it.

Wasn't Oscar vs Vargas also an LA rivalry?

These 2 guys are not even Chicano & Mares trains in Riverside lol And actually i think Santa Cruz lives in the inland empire. The author is really reaching on this fight. I saw the 1st 1 live, it was a good scrap but im not thrilled about the rematch. I doubt its anywhere near Lopez vs Chacon.

It's pretty common to hear people say that this was the best camp that they had before the fight and that they are confident and all that, but hmm, that does sound interesting that LSC hasnt been looking too good in the training lately. I havent watched any training footage, but makes me wonder if I should put a little bit of money for Mares although I am expecting LSC to win

Anyways, the first fight was a fun one, hopefully this will be too

Can't wait til this fight is over....no need for them to shove this rematch down our throats.

Exactly. I mean, the first fight was cool, but we all saw Mares fade and sell out, to no avail.
