Sadriddin Akhmedov - Heir to Golovkin?

Tomorrow this 20-year-old Kazakh makes his professional debut in Quebec (). He came to my attention in the 2016 Youth World Championships where he won gold at Welterweight and was one of the stand-out boxers of the whole tournament. His style is fundamentally defined by power and aggression, but in the course of the tournament he showed us several different looks, sometimes brawling wildly, sometimes stalking patiently and sometimes throwing heavy counters off the back foot. I think this style, combined with his boyish appearance, will inevitably lead to comparisons with his countryman Golovkin once his pro career starts to pick up steam

There isn't too much footage of him on YouTube yet but here he is at his most aggressive against the athletic Mohammed Harris Akbar, a notable prospect in his own right:

Never heard of him but he looks interesting.

Him turning over this young also shows that the days of Central Asian talents staying amateur for too long or even forever seem to be reaching an end

He looks good, just watched the final and thought that was even more impressive. Good to see him turning pro at a young age

Here's the final round of the quarter-final in which he scores two standing 8-counts and displays some decent defence too: (Akhmedov in blue)

Since he's turning pro without much experience in the seniors we can't expect him to be fast-tracked like so many Eastern Euro and Central Asian prospects have been lately, but on the other hand it hopefully means that the peak of his career will actually coincide with his physical prime

Good stuff, he made that look too easy. Looking forward to see how he does professionally. He definitely looks the part

Not a chance with that awful name.

What people don't realize is that Golovkin had the whole (promotional) package. He had a catchy, easy to pronounce name and great personality on top of his record.

                Looking great so far.

Glad to see he's turning pro so young. He should develop into a world class boxer nicely. Like that aggressive style too.

I enjoyed that fight more than the AJ vs Parker fight. Two very good prospects. He doesn't have GGG's power but he has his fighting spirit.
