Comments Thread For: Barrera: Shabranskyy Hits Hard, Definitely Can Beat Kovalev

NEW YORK Sullivan Barrera knows as well as anyone that Vyacheslav Shabranskyy can punch. Barrera doesn't think the Ukrainian light heavyweight contender is as big a puncher as Joe Smith Jr. who, like Shabranskyy, dropped Barrera before Barrera came back to beat him. Still, Shabranskyy (19-1, 16 KOs) is powerful enough, according to Barrera, to hurt Sergey Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs) when they square off Saturday night for the vacant WBO 175-pound championship in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

kovalev and ward were competitive against each other..against ward..Barrera looked liked a novice and even got dropped by the non puncher ward..kovalev will beat glass chin Barrera..maybe stop him..depending on how he looks on Saturday though..hopefully kovalev has plenty left after those two mentally and physically draining ward fights

I'm rooting for Slava with all my heart, but he just doesn't have a quality. He's a good sc****r, a B class fighter, but Kovalev has way more talent.

I just hope that Slava lasts at least 6 rounds and gives it a good go.

I am his countryman too BUT he has zero chance against Kovalev. Just look at the staredowns where SHabranskyy always looked like the loser with no confidence in beating Kovalev.

Zero chance? cmon now, thats ridiculous, shaba might have zero defence but he has one of the biggest punches in the division...if he lands first he can definitely win. I see kovalev landing first and stopping him but you never know, shaba is a WILD man and could go hell for leather in the first 3 rounds and score a huge upset.

Shabranskyy shouldn't be intimated by Kovalev during the fight . He looked to me intimated by Kovalev at the staredowns.

                  shabransky has a poor defense

shabransky's defense may lead to his downfall..hopefully they prepared well for that part and make the fight interesting while it lasts
