Another thing to consider is not all of Wilder's recent fights have been on Showtime, the Washington fight was on FOX, Wilder-Arreola was on CBS or NBC I think. And Sky still paid the network rights to pick these fights up, so they obviously must consider Wilder an asset.

Most the time Hearn gets Sky to show international fights that impact his fighters. 154/Santa Cruz card a couple of weeks being an anomaly, but suppose he assumed he was getting Frampton when he got the rights

Also the PBC Corona commercial Wilder is in that too, why would a Mexican beer brand feature a totally unknown boxer who is not from their target market really?Originally posted by lefthooklead View PostI am not sure why you are bringing Lewis and Holyfield into the equation dude as it doesn't really make much sense when you are talking about stars of boxing, not in 2017 anyway.
Fury, yeah, he's definitely more well known. Wilder, even in England, is one of the most well known Heavyweight fighters that could fight Joshua. Certainly he is the most well known international HW fighter to the UK sports fan.
But if you are talking about the average person off the street, then there are probably only about 4-5 current boxers that they would be able to name in total.
The reason I brought up Holyfield, Lewis, Fury is because even casuals knew who they were. Outside of boxing, no one knows Deontay Wilder. Like I said, go ask around, a majority of people questioned probably think he is a basketball or football player.

You make a valid point though that the majority of Showtime cards in the UK are broadcast on sky, I'd imagine this probably a result of AJ's Showtime deal creating good relations between the two.

It's a simple case of Sky buying the fights to help promote future fights between Hearn's stable. It makes me wonder does Hearn have any interest in the Parker unification when it's Wilder who has been heavily pushed in the UK and not Joey, maybe Joey is perceived a tougher fight and more of a stumbling block.

To my knowledge Boxnation had the Showtime output agreement but now that appears to have dissipated since.

I agree that they don't seem to have much interest in Parker. IMO the top HW's would beat Parker. Maybe they do see it differently though and think the risk of fighting Parker outweighs the reward. I think Hearn is very wary of risking AJ as essentially his whole business model now rests on AJ's shoulders.

You want to make a case for the greatness of Wilder go right ahead. Ten or twenty years from now no one will remember him. He'll be a blip on the radar that came and went. The only possible way he can establish a legacy is to remain undefeated for 51 fights.

Floyd-Conor was an example of this both Sky and Boxnation tendered for the fight, Sky offered the better deal and got the fight. Boxnation had some sort of deal with PBC in 2015 but I'm pretty sure it didn't involve Showtime. Sky definitely seem to have the better relationship with Showtime these days, I'd confidently speculate this is due to AJ signing a deal with Sho. Parker vs Ruiz ended up on Boxnation because of Bob Arums involvement, Bob and Frank Warren have always maintained a strong business relationship going back decades. The Cojanu fight was picked up last minute by Sky wasn't it? I'm sure it was.

Takam Parker was picked up by Sky to build the winner vs AJ before JP went for the vacant belt versus Ruiz another fight I believe I streamed on Boxnation, hard to recall with certainty.
I recall reading comments on social media regrading Boxnation having output agreements with Showtime and Sauerland, this was possibly as far as 4-5 years ago, clearly Sky have the jump with Sho now though.

If Joshua wants to have the islander mentality and just focus on his little fiefdom he can do that and do just fine, if Joshua wants to be insanely huge he needs to be looking outside his little kingdom~
