Is Canelo genetically unable to increase his stamina?

    It's not only his stamina.
He doesn't have much pop in his punches.
At least, Pacquaio, for example, could momentarily stop the big guy in his tracks. Like blasting a terminator in the movie.
How can Cnelo even beat a bigger guy like Jacobs?
Cnelo should be working with Heredia to improve not only his stamina but put some bombs on those fists.

I don't think it is entirely genetics. I think there are multiple factors that contribute to his stamina. Draining weight is the primary one. Any time a fighter has to drain down two or more weight classes to fight he is going to suffer with stamina issues. Canelo wants to walk around at 175-185 and fight at 154/160. Genetically, he has a thick mesomorph body type that carries more heavy muscle. I'm sure his training regiment is partly to blame as well. The older he gets, it won't get easier.

Maybe. He can't back up like he did against Golovkin. It's one thing to fight off your back foot and look to counter, it's a whole other thing to back pedal out of danger with no chance to counter. It just don't look good.

interesting. yeah i never buy the excuse of 'oh if he hadnt gassed he would have won' not just with canelo but in other fights. Having good stamina is a part of the make up of a fighter. Its the same as having great power, reflexes etc.

I thought he ended that fight looking strong.

If his stamina was suspect 100% GGG would've stopped him. That pressure is insane. Matt Macklin obviously not as good as Canelo but a decent fighter mentioned how he was blowing simply because of the amount of pressure GGG puts you in and he got stopped in 3! The guy always seems to be in a position to punch folks. Canelo is an incredible fighter. He did a great job for me. Albeit, I still think he lost by a few rounds.

Thanks. It's annoying seeing other posters on here not sharing the same sentiment on Canelo. Especially Larry and friends who take up this crazed illogical fanboy argument (when laid bare, basically meaning using constant full range of motion landing the bare minimum to then do everything physically or not even legally possible to not exchange/fight) that anyone on the TBE side of the tracks are greatly skilled cause their "slick".. More like sly in subverting the will of the fight they took by 1. Acting like they are fighters 2. Pretending they are ring geniuses

Canelo is one big lie. By that I mean he is a lightweight in the realm of warrior and competitive guts he says and is said to have. The guy is ending up like "The Gift" Danny Garcia where they both are just not anything great. Frankly, I think both guys would do better if they took themselves to the brink of giving it all they had and using aggressive momentum. But let's face it, I don't think they have the stones or character for that matter to risk looking like trash if whatever opponent just beat them down. Say what you will about someone like Paulie, he at least took no liberties whatsoever and was "there" to fight the entire fight looking for every opportunity to have success. Sure that ended up meaning some vicious punishment in fights he never was going to win (Hatton, Cotto, Khan) but least he left it all on the field in the sense of what he could muster offensively.

I laughed when people actually thought he would give mayweather a tough fight lol

He just isn't that talented at that elite level and while he's not a mental midget like a golota or victor ortiz, he tends to go into a shell when he's getting hit. he was getting backed up by lil floyd's right hands.

He'll have a lot more stamina at 168.

He's still cutting a lot to get down to Middleweight.

He throws every punch with bad intentions, that's not a recipe for being able to provide consistent work throughout a fight.
