Comments Thread For: Chocolatito-Sor Rungvisai Rematch Peaked at 835K Viewers on HBO

Plenty of boxing fans saw the demise of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez live on HBO. According to ratings released by Nielsen Media Research, a peak audience of 835,000 viewers were watching when Srisaket Sor Rungvisai knocked out Gonzalez in the fourth round of their super flyweight championship rematch Saturday night. The Sor Rungvisai-Gonzalez rematch, the main event of HBO's "Boxing After Dark" tripleheader from Carson, California, drew an average audience of 796,000.

That's good especially for that weight class. Estrada-Cuadras also had 12m viewers in Mexico. Hopefully they bring the Estrada-Rungvisai match to LA with another good card.

Great news. It was my favourite card of the year, hopefully HBO do another Superfly card at the end of the year.

HBO is only able to put on cards like these because they don't pay the fighters high purses. The whole triple header only cost them a lil less than 1.2 million.

                Here are the payouts.

                Srisaket Sor Rungvisai: $170,000
                Roman Gonzalez: $600,000

                Naoya Inoue: $182,500
                Antonio Nieves: $35,000

                Carlos Cuadras: $62,500
                Juan Carlos Estrada: $65,000

There's a reason that HBOs only competitive fights shown on regular HBO are from the lower division. They get paid peanuts.

GGG, Crawford, Canelo and Ward were getting paid millions to fight mismatches on HBO.

Good for the weight class, but not especially great considering how many top fighters they had to put on the card to get those numbers.

On the bright side, these numbers might justify getting another stacked lower weight card in the future.
