When we talk about wilt chamberlain vs Jordan everybody knows theirs a difference. But when we say Greb vs Pacquiao all of sudden it's a level playing field for judgement. It's a logical fallacy at best. The only thing that old fighters records prove is that they were extremely fought. (Pre-1965ish.semi arbitrary date)

I've already listed reasons why the ATGs of yesteryear were overrated. It's a logica argument but I'm sure it has its flaws. It's a few post that were earlier in this thread if you care to read. If not have a good day sir.
Exactly. Sports evolves. Today's athletes are superior to athletes from 30 or 50 years ago. This is without exception. Why do people think boxing is any different? Take Mayweather out of the discussion because many can't get over their bias enough to discuss the issue. Let's take someone like Miguel Cotto. He's a better trained and better prepared athlete than virtually any fighter near his weight in the 80s. Cotto would probably KO guys near his weight from the past that many have on their top 10 lists. The same way Lebron James would destroy someone like John Havilcheck in basketball. The same way Adrian Peterson would run right over and through **** Butkus.

Why do so many people think boxing is the one sport where athletes don't evolve dramatically over time? And beyond evolving athletically fighters today have more tape to look at to perfect their strategies.

And McGregor is still talking trash as seen below.

It's all hurt ego. He's a human being he allowed. He had good things to say about Floyd but people pestered him so much he had to go back into character. Fans and sports personalities are marketing sheep it's no different from politics. Capitalism touches everything and boxing is be mosf capatilistic sport of all.

MMA has always been a circus since the 90s when I was one of the few people watching it. It was like more serious form of pro wrestling. But Dana made them look the part and train the part and it's a more serious sport because of it. It's not excaxtlu my cup of tea but I try to not stoop below the level of the people that irritate me. But sometimes Fire with Fire is needed.

What I mean is someone's list of favourite fighters is extremely unlikely to be the same as who they rate top 10 all time, for example I don't rate the likes of Joshua, Loma or Thurman top 10 of all time because that would be delusional at this stage.

I'm sure that's what the TS meant, if we see Floyd being top 10 legacy wise rather than a top 10 favourite fighter.

Old school fighter endured hardships and were tough as nails. They were willing to fight it out to the end-- that is undeniable. But ring technicians they were not.

          Henry Armstrong

          Rocky Marciano vs Ezzard Charles.
anyway you look at it Duran did nothing outside of 135 and was not the best fighter of his era so no way is he top 10. duran is a fav fighter but he lost all of his big fights he is the oscar de la hoya of his time.

Duran and Tyson are my favorite fighters but my main criteria for ATG/p4p are fighters who climbed or moved up multiple weight classes.

I think time dulls things tbh. When I first started watching boxing Roy Jones had just left his prime but his highlights were amazing I didn't considered Mayweather as good tbh. Only been watching since 2004 so cannot comment on past fighters. He is an ATG no doubt and that's all that matters tbh.

While just outside of my top 10, I'm surprised Larry Holmes isn't getting some mention. Underrated.

                    1. Ali.
Ali before the 3 year hiatus is the most gifted heavyweigt I've ever seen in a heavyweight and nearly unbeatable(Liston, Patterson) no rope a dope just lightning hands and feet.
                    2. Mayweather
                    3. Duran
No mas! Still better than Leonard IMO
                    4. Whitaker
                    5. Ray Robinson
                    6. Julio Ceasar Chavez
                    7. Pacquiao
                    8. Larry Holmes

There have been so many special talents. And this is just since mid 80's list of fighters in his weight classes. I do believe mayweather was a special fighter and was also good for boxing in his own way. So no way a disrespect in saying top 40ish fighter of all times covering the history of boxing in all weight divisions. See i dont even need to name 40 in history for you. I can name around ten in the last 30 yrs or so, and remember the old timers even thought 80's were soft and big dropoff for boxing
Just because they may beat him in a fight doesnt mean theyre better fighters. If that was the case, well then....
