Connor is simply the type of fighter that NEEDS to psyche himself up. It's how he handles his nervous energy. Floyd Mayweather handles any nerves through calm. He does the trash talking during press conferences to promote the fight. But after camp and the two weeks leading up to the fight, he's all business. Weigh-ins, he's all business. He's not trying to win the personality/who can scream the loudest promotional war anymore. He's focused on being calm, smart, his traditional self and getting the W. In the history books for boxing, the W is what matters.

        -If Connor DQ's himself, it's a W for Floyd
-If Floyd wins a lackluster, but clear decision, it's a W for Floyd and Floyd could always say it was his plan all along to fight a smart fight the way he always does. That even if it wasn't exciting or no knockout, Connor was just like any other opponent who thought they'd be able to bring it to Floyd and Floyd just did what he always did. Floyd maintains his rep in boxing (good or bad) Connor can go back to UFC saying Boxing isn't real fighting and continue his rising star.
-If Floyd wins by KO, he probably has even his detractor boxing fans on his side for one night after having "defended the honor of boxing". Connor continues his star and fans still love him. However MMA fans who may not like or care for Floyd and Boxing, might develop a smidgen of respect for both.
-If Floyd loses (in any capacity), it's a black eye for the sport for a while as it gives fuel to those who say "MMA is better" even thought they are simply different. However Boxing would have some work to do to repair its reputation in the eyes of MMA fanatics or those who feel they have to choose even if you really don't

It's interesting as a fight. In my opinion, Connor has absolutely NOTHING to lose if you don't count his own pride. Floyd has just about everything to lose. His boasts of not knowing what losing feels like. The 50-0. The forever ridicule for letting the sport of boxing down again (May/Pac), but this time when it was one night where all of Boxing was seemingly on his side. Connor's, White's, Rogan's and other's constant digs at him. Articles questioning his legacy. Even though his "Boxing" legacy is still set and clear. His "legacy in the court of casual-fan/celebrity/public opinion would take a MASSIVE hit.

Floyd knows all of this. He saw a HUGE event which he relishes in. He saw a HUGE payday which he wants (he may have some tax issues, but he'll pay that off, and he has another huge chunk of payday change to make a possible billion dollar investment). He sees that comes with a younger, stronger, unique, hyper, confident, brash, powerful and skilled MMA fighter that he was to be on his game for, but winnable. I don't feel he's taking McGregor lightly.

Floyd doesn't need credit for this fight. 50-0 is a great marketing tool for his legacy and future endeavors beyond Boxing, for his Boxing gym, maybe as a trainer one day and as a promoter. He doesn't expect to be praised for knocking out McGregor the way he would be if he knocked out Golovkin. This is less about Boxing legacy and more about his entertainment legacy in the court of public opinion. He wants his Payton Manning Super Bowl before retirement moment. He wants his Kobe Bryant 60pt retirement game moment. Simply a winnable, entertaining send-off for the casual public to feed his ego more.

I just feel he sees the reward being massive and the risk being manageable.

I will give Connor massive credit. Him beating Floyd would show he's a special fighter period and he would deserve that credit. He wouldn't be able to escape some who would point out Floyd being 40+ and two years removed from the ring. However his win would reverberate louder than those here and there articles excusing Floyd's loss.

Floyd deserves no Boxing legacy credit for beating McGregor. It's just the mega money, mega event he wants as a sign-off and his own marketing. Connor deserves Boxing and MMA credit for beating Floyd and this is meant to propel him the way May/DLH propelled Floyd's money-making career.

Not really, this is an exhibition as far as I'm concerned. He gets ppv creds though.

Floyd Mayweather Jr deserves as much credit for beating Connor Mcgregor as Mike Tyson did in beating Corey Sanders (in an exhibition match):

Or he deserves as much credit for beating Mcgregor as a world cup winning football (soccer) team do for beating a 100 ranked team in a friendly match.

In the end, let's not forget that this is merely an exhibition match. It's not to be taken too seriously. Winning or losing for either guy doesn't mean much in the context of the sport. It's only meaningful financially.

                      Nope.

There's no competitive professional boxer around the same weight who would not easily beat McGregor.
