Comments Thread For: Mayweather: I'm Taking Bigger Risk Than McGregor; Legacy on Line

The financial rewards will be well worthwhile for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor once they're paid for their August 26 fight. Mayweather figures to make much more money from their pay-per-view extravaganza than McGregor, who'll still earn more money from this unusual spectacle than he ever could've made for a UFC fight. That's the way it should be, according to boxing's biggest star, because he is risking everything he spent 20 years building as a professional prizefighter for a fight he didn't need.

Shut the **** up Floyd! Who the **** you trying to kid?!
You wanna take risks then fight Thurman or Spence Jr. That's what you call a risk. Nobody can blame you for taking this easy fight against an amateur for big money. I give you props for that. But just shut the **** up already!
Only ****ing idiots really think Mcgregor has a chance to beat you.
No way he beats you so just make a fool out of him next week, take your money and go enjoy your life and I hope we don't ever have to see you in a boxing ring again. Good bye and good riddance!

No he's right for once he's got a lot more to lose here. If mcgregor loses he's lost the one of the greatest of all time. If floyd loses he's lost to a man having his first professional fight. It wouldn't just be him losing either. The whole sport of boxing takes this L

Risk is taking a chance at something you have little competence or ability in such as McGregor going into a boxing ring against one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time. That's risk. Floyd going into the octagon with no MMA experience and the fight being sanctioned for his 50th win, that's risk. He's full of it and I'm not surprised people like you buy into his BS.

Legacy was damaged when you made the fight.

People like me? You obviously haven't read the majority of my posts about this fight but the facts speak for themselves. Floyd has a lot more to lose than Connor does. Connor is about to quadruple his net worth that doesn't sound like much of a risk to me. Floyds reputation could be in tatters after this.

When floyd spoke of mcgregor having all of the advantages I called bull**** on that because it was bs but I do agree that he has more to lose going into this fight than mcgregor. There's no expectations of Connor if he was to see the final bell it would be seen as a victory of some sorts.

I think he's conflating potential damage and risk. If he loses, the fight will hurt his legacy. But the risk of losing is very low IMO, given the conditions. This is a high-reward low-risk fight, the best scenario for Floyd, and typical since he became a PPV star. For him to claim he's risking his legacy is disingenuous or unintentionally erroneous.
