It would be amazing if he can still go down to 69kg. That's where he won his Youth Olympics and Youth World Championship Gold medals.
I suggested earlier in the thread that I would like to see Madrimov go down to 69kg and Melikuziev down to 75kg, but if Melikuziev can go down to 69kg that may be much better.
He'll have success at 81kg because of his talent but if he wants Gold then he should move down in weight.
Have you been watching the tournament.Last edited by HI-TECH Boxing; 09-01-2017, 05:01 PM.

Winners in bold.
48kg:
Joahnys Argilagos (Cuba) vs. Hasanboy Dusmatov (Uzbekistan)
I think Dusmatov should win easily but that fight against Martinez was something. Maybe it took something away from Dusmatov.
52kg:
Yosbany Veitia (Cuba) vs. Jasurbek Latipov (Uzbekistan)
I don't really give a care who wins. Veitia beat Latipov early in the year. I'm going Latipov because I don't think Veitia was effective in his fight today. Galanov gave him trouble with his offense. Latipov is sloppy but he probably has better offense than Galanov; he throws more.
But that will also give Veitia more chances to counter. Either way I don't care who wins this one. Not a huge fan of either.
56kg:
Kairat Yeraliyev (Kazakhstan) vs. Duke Ragan (USA)
I think either guy can take this. I can't wait to see this fight.
I'm going Ragan because he beat Yeraliyev earlier in the year, but I'm sure Yeraliyev wants to get his revenge just like Ragan got revenge on Javier Ibanez of Cuba. Past results mean nothing if you learn from them.
I expect a close fight either way. But the USA may be seeing their first World Amateur Champion since 2007 (Demetrius Andrade and Rau'shee Warren).
60kg:
Lázaro Álvarez (Cuba) vs. Sofiane Oumiha (France)
I expect a competitive fight with the judges favoring Oumiha. That's just basically my wild prediction for the finals lol, but Alvarez will most likely win his fourth World title.
64kg:
Ikboljon Kholdarov (Uzbekistan) vs. Andy Cruz (Cuba)
64kg ended up being a pretty disappointing weight class, I must say. Easy work for Cruz.
69kg:
Shakhram Giyasov (Uzbekistan) vs. Roniel Iglesias (Cuba)
Iglesias looked really good today. He showed why he's been on or near the top for almost a decade and I expect him to get his second world title.
75kg:
Abilkhan Amankul (Kazakhstan) vs. Oleksandr Khyzhniak (Ukraine)
There isn't much to say. I think Khyzhniak's pressure will get the job done again. It'll be interesting with Amankul's style though.
81kg:
Julio La Cruz (Cuba) vs. Joe Ward (Ireland)
If Ward wants to win this he is going to have to make La Cruz come out of his comfort zone. Meaning he will have to make La Cruz lead. La Cruz doesn't like to do that. That's how Falcao beat him at the 2012 Olympics and that's how Ramirez of Venezuela always gives him problems. They make/made La Cruz come forward and pick their shots on the backfoot. Mina, today, had his best moments when he made La Cruz come forward.
I expect to see La Cruz win it though. He'll probably win all three rounds. Ward will have his moments but I suspect he didn't learn much from his previous fights with La Cruz.
91kg:
Evgeny Tishchenko (Russia) vs. Erislandy Savon (Cuba)
Savon is the more talented of the two but can you really bet against Tishchenko at this point?
To be fair to Tishchenko I thought he fought Savon pretty competitively back at 2015 World Championships. That's what I saw at least.
91+kg:
Kamshybek Kunkabayev (Kazakhstan) vs. Magomedrasul Majidov (Azerbaijan)
I'm going with the fresher man of the two. Majidov has done great getting himself into another World Championship final but I just get the feeling that Kunkabayev will deny him his third Gold.
This Cuban team is really good. Most of their guys are in their prime right now. They're in their mid to late 20s, with some still in their early 20's.
I predicted they would lose four finals but three of them have a good chance of winning their final.
Uzbekistan can get better if they move some of their boxers down and replace others.
Pretty similar situation with Kazakhstan. Just replace some guys here and there.
Russia just needs a new team in general. I think Russia has some good young talent and I expect them to be back for the 2019 World Championships and 2020 Olympics. I like guys like Nikita Piskunov, Ilya Popov, and a few others to make the team in the near future. They should look to the future not the past.
Good showing for USA and pretty young team as well. Expect Junior and Youth World Champion, Marc Castro, to start competing for them in 2019. Probably at Lightweight.Last edited by HI-TECH Boxing; 09-01-2017, 06:07 PM.

So far:
Dusmatov beat the hell out of my trainer.
Melikuziev should go down.
Yuberjen is probably in the best stage of his career.
Where are Robeisy, Zoirov, Finol and the pros Alimkhanuly, Rabii and Daniyar?.
I still hate to see so many ***** referees.
Andy Cruz is looking really good.
And i like that guy from USA, has a really nice jab.

Knijniak might get robbed, I hope not.
I don't think Andy Cruz has a walk in the park against Kholdarov, I hope I am wrong.

I really want to know what Yeleussinov is up to now. Can anyone find Mike Altamura, the guy who supposedly signed him, on social media and ask what the deal is?

It will start to get interesting next year. We will start seeing boxers from the Youth Ranks, that competed at last years Youth World Championships, start making their way up to the Senior teams.
Then we also have the 2018 World Youth Championships and 2018 Youth Olympics coming which will show us even more talent.
Robeisy fought in June at the Giraldo Cordova Cardin Tournament and got upset against a Thai fighter. He needs to regain his form.
Zoirov has been fighting at 56kg for some reason.
I don't know what is up with Finol. I know he wanted to continue to the 2020 Olympics while he finishes school. He probably could have won Gold at 52kg at these Championships.
Alimkhanuly has his second pro fight scheduled so he may be pro for good now.
Rabii is 3-0 as a pro right now but his career has been pretty quiet.
Yeleussinov looks like he parted ways MJA entertainment and Mike Altamura, so who even knows if he goes pro.
I want to see Yeleussinov again. Whether it's pro, I prefer that, or amateur boxing.
He's too talented to call it a day now.
