Maybe Anthony could follow him into the tourney? Has he got something better to be doing?

haymon wants that WBC title. no interest in putting anybody of consequence in the tournament unless it's a weight class where WBSS agrees to select 8 haymon fighters.

Hope the last 3 spots feature some better talent. It's quite a massive drop from the other SMW tournament which had Froch, Ward, Kessler, Abraham, Dirrell, etc.

Is it a promotional reason why Eubank Jr, Dirrell, Degale, and Ramirez are not in this?

dirrell & degale are controlled by haymon and haymon isn't going to give up control of one of his weight classes.

Mmmm. Maybe. Shame. How is not putting any fighters in the tourney gonna help Uncle Al get the WBC though? The WBC have put a diamond belt up for grabs for Mundo in his first fight regardless of opponent, so I'm thinking the tourney has to be the best route to the green trinket. Bearing in mind the Mundo is the WBCs #1 contender and the WBC seem to have given full backing to the WBSS I've a feeling that waiting it out will only result in Dirrell being left out in the cold.

diamond title is a consolation prize. dirrell vs smith was a mandatory #1 vs #2 fight for the world title. with smith ducking the fight, dirrell will fight a lesser fighter for the vacant title, thus maintaining control for haymon over the WBC & IBF belts at 168.

why would haymon risk losing those belts by putting his fighters in the tournament? wouldn't make any sense unless nearly every fighter in the tournament was a haymon fighter and he liked his odds.

I can see the logic but was thrown by people saying that Callum would remain mando though I ain't seen any actual evidence of this. Do we know for sure that Anthony will now get to fight for the title? I'm guessing we may just have to see which way the WBC jump. Hard to tell without being privy to more details about the Michigan move thingy - it could be that is used as justification for saying Dirrell refused the fight. Ah well. I guess we just wait and see. It would be a shame if we didn't get some Haymon fighters in there - I just kinda assumed given that Schaeffer was involved...

I'd like to see Degale in this and Eubank jr too.

A shame that Smith won't get the world title shot against Dirrell.
He was mandatory for a long time and i wanted to see him win that fight. He sat on the shelf a little when he earned that shot and it was a waste in the end.

I'm not surprised they walked away though, with Dirrell and Haymon dragging that on and wanting to revise contracts. It had gotten silly.

This is a good platform for Smith though. Interest in seeing how he gets on.

Dirrell would get blasted out of the ring
