Comments Thread For: U.S. TV for 'World Boxing Super Series' in Play, Says Schaefer

While the final participants are being added for the 'World Boxing Super Series' tournament, which is set to kick off in September and October, what hasn't been finalized is the television component. Many fans in America have asked if the eight-man, single-elimination tournaments in the super middleweight and cruiserweight divisions will be broadcast in the States.

This is awesome but if it's a ploy by Schaefer to get back in the good graces of boxing fans so he can barter that good will into making another decade of mismatches after this like when he was with Al Haymon, then it shouldn't be applauded. One cool tournament shouldn't erase so many years of mismatches in the past and certainly not if he does it in the future. I hope this is the start of a trend with him and not an anomaly.

Also, if they bracket the tournament so that there are as many mismatches as possible before the final fight, that will also take away from it. Not that I want to spoil the best matchups in the quarterfinals, but they should at least match the best guys each with the most difficult styles for them among the lesser guys in the quarterfinals, rather than setting it up as easy as possible for the best guys. For example Usyk probably should not be matched with Huck, that's way too easy style wise. Maybe match Huck with Gassiev to start and that way even though the A-side will still move on, Gassiev, at least it's a guy Huck can find and it will be a fight, unlike Usyk-Huck. Just for example.

From what I have read the top 4 seeds get to pick their opponents so I assume Usyk will be picking 1st.

Dont you have it wrong? When schaefer wss working for GBP, he delivered really good fights and showtime wss about to catch up to hbo.
The mismatches started, when he was seperated from GBP and subsequently barred from being involved with boxing. Schaefer is one of the few promotors who still knows how to promote.

Starting to get excited about this Tournament! Nothing but respect to all the Top Cruiserweight signing up! Have to favor Usyk right now but Yunier Dorticos is a major sleeper but also Huck and Wlodarczyk EXPERIENCE could play a factor as well.

Are they just going with those 6 or they're looking to add more guys to jump in? Mike Perez, Andrew Tabiti would be nice if those guys are willing. Not sure if Tabiti is ready for this level of Competition though!

Since the top seeds get to pick who they fight, I'm guessing the way the seeding and the matchups will work is like this:

                  1. Usyk vs. 8. Wlod
                  2. Briedis vs. 7. Huck
                  3. Gassiev vs. 6. Kudryashpv
                  4. Dorticos vs. 5. Glowacki

This is going to be a fun series....I got that feeling.....I guess many of us are excited about this. ESPN did great ratings, PBC and ShoBox has had some great cards, and now this. Boxing is doing great....its the judging that has gone way downhill lately.
