Comments Thread For: Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev II: Post-Fight Report Card

The final punch Andre Ward landed was a low blow. To dismiss it entirely is intellectually dishonest; to pretend it didn't happen a lie. To say emphatically it ended on three straight low blows would be both of those things as well. The shot that ultimately drew the stoppage, bending Kovalev forward with a grimace and sitting into the ropes, was clearly below the belt. Take into account a high belt line indicated before the fight by referee Tony Weeks.

The ugly ending on this fight is a real shame.
Ward stopping Kovalev was one of the last things I thought was possible in this fight, and it was coming on quick without the low blows.

A shocking result for this fight.

Knowing Ward, a 3rd fight is out of the question. I kind of want to see it though.

Is this a joke of a report card? I wish when I was in high school if if I did worse than the first semester I got about the same grades. Kovalev Defense B+? Speed B+? Intangibles B+? Where is Stamina? Kovalev was way slower in this fight, his defense was very very bad, and his intangibles wtf? Intangibles did not exists he had no left hook and followed Ward around the ring for 8 rounds.

Kov is a dumb a s s. When someone gets dirty with you, you get dirty back. I don't want to hear anything from Kov or his fans at this point.

Weather Wards tactics were questionable or not, Kov responded like a p u s s y.

                  Ward beat his a s s! Period!

Props to Ward for proving his metal!!

All top fighters should step up to the plate like Ward did!

the first shot landed on the designated clean area? pretty sure the letters of kovs trunks were def not the clean area. here is a picture of kovs trunks and then here is the punch. you can see its partially landing on the letters and partially landing on the belt line. thats clearly low and clearly below what weeks said counted as low. if it touches any of the dark area of his trunks its definitely low and it definitely touched that area on this punch as well as a bunch of others.

also earlier in the fight weeks had warned ward for going low when he hit him in the same area so how is it a low blow in the 2nd but not in the 7th and 8th? it should have been low according to weeks himself but he changed his standards mid fight. this is the reason kovallev was apppealing to the ref. it was low in the 2nd but now its legal in the 7th and 8th?

also the second punch clearly hits kovalevs leg first and then goes up into his body. is anyone going to argue the leg isnt low? it was too hard to get a screen grab of the leg shot but in the video you can clearly see it deflect off the leg as it went upwards.

also heres another example of a low blow that ward fans were saying is clean simply because it hit the belt line. but it also hit him low at the same time but they ignored that part of course. when any part of the glove goes below what the ref deemed low it is a low blow. have to explain the rules to them because they are so blinded by fandom. unfortunately when the ref stops following the rules you get problems and you get low blow stoppages like this one. you get fighters getting confused when the same punch is deemed illegal and then deemed legal later. terrible incompetence that favors the a-side guy....well this is boxing so expect no less. even a lot of the people in boxing media will overlook it because they dont want to portray boxing as corrupt or incompetent since thats the usual story.
