Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: No Mayweather Model, I Made Canelo-GGG For Fans!

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya admits that he could have easily matched his biggest star, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs), against opponents who presented far less risk than Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs). Last Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, De La Hoya officially announced that a deal was reached for September 16th - with the venue and location to be determined.

Oscar and his ginger had no choice but to make the fight. After a dud last weekend, he needed to redeem himself after conning so many people (not myself) into buying a sparring session.

... Oscar didn't "make" it... GGG was Cotto's mandatory for the WBC belt and the "lineal" title...

As a GGG fan i must call it BS , they could 100% skip the GGG fight and go the BJS route , EASILY as well , they would be fighting for a title @ MW vs an unbeaten fighter and they would make crap ton of money on this fight , then they will cherry pick someone as a "stay busy" fight and before you know it GGG is 37 , they are taking a big risk (with a great reward of course) by taking GGG @ sep , do i feel its an obvious fight to make ? sure , but its not in the boxing DNA lately to make the risky fights ...... lets hope it changes , but 100% they didnt HAVE to make it..... not even close.
