Comments Thread For: Canelo is Facing A No-Win Situation Against Chavez

By Andreas Hale - With credible options dwindling that boxing fans would accept aside from a showdown with Gennady Golovkin, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez turned his attention toward Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and effectively got the skeptics off of his back for the time being. But is there a significant risk for Canelo heading into his May 6th showdown with the son of the boxing legend?...

Pretty hard to call something a "no-win situation" when you're leaving the ring with a multi-million dollar check

6 to 1? It was all win until Jr made 164. Now it's no win? Better get your bets in before the odds go down.

Chavez only has a name, nothing else, he is the typical "Euro bum" kind of fighter, hasnt beaten anyone of note in 5 years, got pummeled by Fonara, went life and death with Bryan Vera and couldnt even hurt a german bum in his last fight. He is nowhere ranked and he is drained severly.. With all that said, i still root for Chavez because he is not that the same kind of terrible coward as Canelo is.

Yet he and Canelo have had remarkably similar career paths, both learning 'on the job', growing through the weights and facing similar levels of opposition along the way. Both have had their fair share of favourable results swing their way too. No doubting the fact that Canello has made the most of his career and resulting fame but lets not pretend they are all that dissimilar.

It's a massive fight that will do big numbers.

Big fight, big money, allows him to acclimate to a higher weight...there are plenty of good things about it.

It helps his hip pocket and hurts his legacy.

Jr doesn't have a jab whatsoever and he doesn't use his height.

Lets not forget Canelo is moving up in weight and fighting someone bigger. Weight can make a huge difference, Canelo doesn't have a massive frame and already has a lot of muscle. The weight might be one step too much and he gets pummelled.

as much as i loathe the saying ''it is what it is'', it really is what it is. all parties knew what they were getting into. sol knew he had to make a certain weight and canelo knew there would be built in excuses should sol lose. pure bltch move if he goes that route.

fnck that outside shlt. get the win, worry about the criticism later (if at all).

if i were canelo, id go right at sol at the opening bell. an all out CONTROLLED blitz.
