Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Golovkin Opponents B-Class; I'm A Lot Different Than That

NEW YORK Daniel Jacobs wasn't being disrespectful, just honest. When he looks at the opponents Gennady Golovkin has beaten on his way to 36-0 and 33 knockouts, he isn't overly impressed as their March 18 showdown at Madison Square Garden looms. The WBA world middleweight champion's response to how he would assess the caliber of fighters the Kazakh knockout artist has beaten was, "Oh, B-class. B-class."

Since Pirog, Jacob's last 12 opponents had a win ratio of 78% (ie won 78% of their previous fights). Golovkin's last 12 opponents have had a win ratio of 90%.

So if Golovkin's opponents have been B, Jacob's opponents have been.........

Let's put it this way...the opponents that he has faced were beaten before they stepped into the ring. With the exception of Kell Brook, his ego is too huge to be intimidated by Triple G . Jacobs won't have that problem. Mentally, he won't be intimidated, and sometimes, that can make a world of difference. It's why I fully believe that Carl Froch would have given Triple G all kinds of problems. Another planet sized ego, that won't care how many KO's Triple G has, and will engage him in a battle of wills. Man against man.

Gotta respect the confidence. I don't expect this one to last long as GGG will be trying to make a statement so he can get a Canelo payday.
Jacobs has a punchers chance though.

It's good to see Danny out and talking, building the fight.

Golovkin likely stops him. I hope he make it competitive.

“His top opponent, which was what, Kell Brook?"

Stopped reading there. Not interested in Jacobs's assessments of Golovkin's opponents if he says something ******ed like that.

Jacobs is definitely top 5 right now - so this a huge fight. GGG is a huge underdog, in my opinion, but I think he'll pull off the upset and shock the world!

"what he’s gonna be in there with is probably gonna be a lot different from what he’s anticipating, or what he’s used to.” - You're right, you're fixing to find out yourself.

I like Jacobs but let's not act like he seeked GGG, he was forced as his mandatory. If GGG's opponents are B class, then Sergio Mora, Caleb Truax, Jarrod Fletcher, Milton Nuñez, Giovanni Lorenzo, and all the rest of his most recent fights were against E minus opposition. Lemieux, Monroe, Martin Murray, Marco Rubio would all mop the floor with his Latin Snake Problem as s!

GGG's top opponent was Canelo - I mean he completely exposed someone considered a "Mexican warrior" into draining himself to hide at a catch weight for years and completely destroyed his reputation around the entire world. I'd say that GGG damaged Canelo more than Floyd did.
