Walters looked off from the start. Not in any drastic way, but when you are against someone as good as Loma, you have to be 100% switched on and Walters looked like he couldn't get off from the very start and his legs were shaky and weak by the 4th/5th round, which is what happens when you are so inactive. He just didn't have it and Loma made him pay big time. Amazing performance.

I think it was a hopeless case for Walters. He was never going to land that big right and he knew it, but of course, he would get more respect for finishing the fight. I agree. Still, doesn't that make Loma look like a beast?
I wasn't really thinking of Loma when making this thread but I was very happy with what I saw from him. Body shots didn't phase him. Better head movement, gameplan, was able to turn a quality fighter, able to maintain high punch variety, able to do a lot of things at a higher level. Proved he wasn't the same guy who lost to Salido. Great stuff.

Loma's style is something I'm very fond of and I've been studying him for a while. I just wanted him to mature it for the pro's. I wasn't ready to praise a guy who was all flash and struggled with a gatekeeper. He proved tonight that he's now a top pro. That he can float but also apply some power now too. That is very exciting.

He could very well be the next big star. How do you compare him with Calzaghe? I see Calzaghe as busier but maybe Loma is a bit sharper and more refined.

I've been to sleep and gotten up since the fight and I still don't think I have my head around what Walters did. Been a fan of his for a few years now and I never saw that in him. I'm lost.

Not legit injuries. I'm talking about someone who hasn't taken any real damage, isn't gasping for breath, isn't significantly slowing, hurt, or injured.

Who else has just said, "Hey bro, I gotta head out now" because he was losing?

Maidana made Ortiz quit for the first time.

He also made Broner quit but the ref wouldn't allow it.

is easy for me to say cause i wasnt the one getting punched in the face, but surely walters should have just given it one more round, thrown a few bombs cause he always had a punchers chance with his power

The way he gets off his combos, pivots and then lands some more reminds me exactly of what joe used to do

Oh they are similar, but I think his spin off is better along of course, with his hands. But I will say that damn. Joe made a show of it with every single fight. A great entertainer.

Duran against Leonard is the biggest "no mas" in history. It was a joke but this is almost up there.

When I watch Joe, I see a guy with broken hands and poor technical skills that won because he was a fighter at heart and would not be denied. Building that kind of cardio takes a lot of heart. As does never being mentally bullied or defeated. His instincts took an awkward style and made it work, through the footwork and the hands alike. Such a rare quality he had.

Loma is so disciplined and text-book, nut not in a traditional sense. He's writing new chapters in the text book. He's doing lateral footwork that Pac did. But, whereas Pac "got away with it" because of his athleticism, Loma actually does it in a precise and deliberate way.

I think Joe and Loma are special, but in very different ways.
