Comments Thread For: Lomachenko vs. Walters - CompuBox Historical Review

Working behind an effective jab (8.1 landed per round) Vasyl Lomachenko landed 50.7% of his power punches, while dazzled opponents landed just 8.1 total punches per round and 16.1% of their total punches (half the weight class average) and just 22.3% of their power shots. Nicholas Walters matched Loma's offensive numbers, landing 7.7 jabs per round and 49.8% of his power punches. Opponents landed 21.6% of their total punches and 26.3% of their power shots.

But, had this chat in another forum where someone did a great speed analysis of both fighters. Both showed higher than average speed, from memory, Loma outgunned Walters in speed in most categories, but not all 9I think Walters got it with the lead jab).

Like the analysis above, Walters numbers included earlier fights (Donaire etc). I asked the innocent question whether there was any difference between the Walters v Sosa and the Walters v Donaire, and there was apparently a measurable decline.

So while Loma seems to be getting stronger in all departments, Walters has demonstrated some decline, so does the above analysis overstate Walters current competitiveness ?

    No idea, answers soon.

Recent inactivity for Walters could be a factor tonight because he needs to be sharp as a tack to control the pace of the fight. The other thing that intrigues me is whether Lomachenko's ring IQ is sufficient to neutralize power punches from the bigger man.

Walters is effective counterpunching. If Loma doesn't get on that bike, Walters will hurt him.
