Extremely hard fight to score and to be comfortable with the score.
Round 9 was absolutely his best round. I remember yelling "oh ****, Ward's gonna win this ****in fight" after the 9th. When Kovalev took the 10th I thought it was over because Ward needed the last 2 rounds and had no room for error. But I thought he dug down and pulled it out.

The fight was a b1tch to score, I scored it 114-113 Kovalev when I was watching it live, then rewatched it and had it 114-113 Ward, then rewatched it again and had it a draw. IMO nobody really won the fight, which is why there has to be a rematch, I give Ward a lot of credit for the heart and willpower and give Sergey a lot of credit for being a fine technical fighter, but none of them really beat the other guy convincingly, I'd lose a lot of respect for Ward if he doesn't give Kovalev the rematch he and we deserve. Like Roy said, the winner of rematch will automatically be declared the winner of the first fight.

        115-112 Kovalev

Ward brough himself even on my card after 9. But then I thought Sergei settled in again the last 3 rounds and was starting to do damage again. I thought Ward was the one who slowed up last after having to expend energy and mental resources trying to regroup from a big knockdown and get himself even. That is what I was thinking at the time watching the last 3. I thought he had given his all but was going to come up just short in making a complete turn around in that fight. He brought it even, but it never turned imo.

It's whatever though, I liked the fight and the casuals I watched it with enjoyed it as well...there was some wrasslin and holding but I thought it became part of the fight and I think it needed to play out instead having it over officiated.

Sergei does bear some responsibility for saying he didn't want to make it a short fight.

        a rematch needs to happen

          59-54 kovalev so far
No way you can give Round 4 to Kovalev. If not a Ward round, it was even worst case scenario

Anyone who gave Ward round 10 is clearly bias. There is absolutely no way he won that round. No way. Look: I wanted Ward to win as much as the next guy, but to give him round 10 is simply not right.

              How can you dispute this?

"Ward lands a blazing two punch combo and uppercut at 2:54 mark. Ward lands a body shot at 2:45. Kov lands a jab at 2:35 mark. They exchange jabs at 2:20. Ward lands a BIG overhand left at 2:10. Follows with two head snapping jabs at 1:51 and 1:48 mark. Kovalev responds by hitting air. They exchange jabs at 1:34. Ward with a nice jab to the body at 1:27. Ward with a HUGE check hook at 1:07 mark. They exchange overhand rights at the :49 second mark. Ward with a HUGE power jab at the :39 second mark, followed by a big overhand right to the kidney's at the :32 second mark. They exhange jabs at the :29 second mark. They exchange jabs at the :20 second mark. Kovalev lands air for the rest of the round"

114-113 Kovalev. While the fight was close, I believe this score was the most fair and logical one.
Fair and unbias here. Although rounds like 9 probably could have gone either way. Same with round 12.

Okay, if you want to play that game, let's play. How can YOU dispute Kovalev outlanding Ward in terms of punches, and power punches according to Compubox, PLUS a knockdown in round two? Ward did land flush shots, but they weren't HURTING Kovalev, which is why he kept moving forward.

Just rewatched round 10. How anyone could score that round for Ward is beyond me. Ward did land, yes, but Kovalev was hurting Ward, and backing him up, landing flush shots all the way. Ward landed some flush shots of his own, but not ONCE back Kovalev up. Kovalev's aggressiveness was clearly effective in round 10, which why I gave him the round.
