Im getting pretty tired of reading this crap day in day out that a fighter has got to have a 'tune up' before he fights a top opponent.
seriously what is the point, especially if you are fighting someone who these fighters could beat in their sleep? For example, garcia v vargas, is the experience of fighting vargas really going to make garcia that much better when he fights thurman? I'd argue that top quality sparring gets them more 'fight ready' than the 40 mins or less they spend in the ring against some bum, that doesnt prepare them for a top fighter at all. Why did ward need 4 tune ups before fighting kovalev? Why is jacobs insisting on a tune up against GGG? Is he suddenly going to be twice as dangerous when he fights ggg cause hes beaten up some bum before hand? Just seems a lot of fighters **** their pants when they get offered a big fight 'oh no i cant possibly fight someone good, i need a warm up fight against some no hoper' Just think the fighters these days exploit the word 'tune up' as a way of taking an easy fight and making some easy money.
