That may very well be so, sometimes. But I'm still puzzled. Valero has, as far as I can see, not been KD'd. Of course one can sustain brain injuries without having been floored. But then....

All I can say is that, it is unusual that the way he took out foes one after the other, it is Valero who has now been declared unable to ply his trade in the US due to suspected brain damage instead of one or two of the people he sent to slumberland early in each of his previous fights.

Hi Blockhead. Thanks. How was the damage inflicted? His last fight before the hiatus was against Tomas Zambrano, in Irvine, which was halted at one minute, 45 seconds. Needless to say, it was Zambrano who failed to continue. Prior to that, Valero could not have stayed atop the ring for a cumulative period of half an hour, over 11 fights, because none of the previous fights lasted three minutes.

Yea hes an interesting prospect to look out for. Sorta hard when hes banned from fighting in the us...

But we had some cool footage of him sparring with Eric Morales some time back. You could do a search and find it.

There's a Lightweight named Edwin Valero who racked up 18 consecutive FIRST ROUND STOPPAGES before being forced to extend a fight TO THE SECOND ROUND BEFORE AGAIN STOPPING HIS FOE. He totes a record of 19 wins, ALL BUT ONE BY FIRST ROUND KO/TKO. No loss. He debuted in 2002, didn't fight in the whole of 2004 but more than made up for that in 2005 by facing 5 different opponents. His first appearance this year was in Feb 25 when he took out Wyber Garcia in the first round in a WBA Fedelatin title fight. Exactly one month later (March 25), he TKOd Genaro Trazancos in a non-title meeting in Kobe, Japan in the second round-- the first time he had to go that far in a fight.

He is officially managed by Secundo Lujano, but Oscar De La Hoya's dad has widely been reported as having a lot of say in his career. It is therefore odd that with Golden Boy Promotions behind him, he has not created much of a wave among fight fans.

It seems that he is not even listed in the upcoming cards of Golden Boy Promotions.

What gives? Is it, in part, because Joel De La Hoya manages Mike Anchondo who, after having lost his WBO Jr. Light title to Barrios, is now back to campaigning at Lightweight?

Unfortunately he did not receive that in his last fight because his "lucky" opponent lasted until the 2nd round. How unfortunate for valero. LOL!!!

Ah, Ok, THANKS, blockhead. Ya too Chups and Konstantin.

I have just read an item by USA Columnist Thomas Hauser (. secondsout.com/USA/colhauser.cfm?ccs=208&cs=13484) that the reason Valero was denied a license was that prior to a scheduled fight in New York sometime in January 2004, he underwent medical examination where an MRI scan revealed TRACES OF A PREVIOUS bleeding in the brain. But no mention was made of how the bleeding came about. It may have been because of that motorcycle accident you fellas heard about. (Though the chronology of events just doesn't seem to add up as Valero had recently met Zambrano in December 12, 2003, in Irvine, CA, and the MRI scan was done merely weeks after the Zambrano fight. Oh, well...)

Be that as it may, Valero, I suspect, is today's KO KING, not merely based on his percentages, but also on the time within each fight that he stopped his opponents. I don't know of any current fighter holding a similar record-- padded or not.

Here's hoping he gets truly fit, be declared as such and can fight on US territory again so American fans can treat themselves to displays of truly unusual power.
