I am an American and an army veteran and yet I have no particular loyalty to American boxers and I never have. I like fighters because I like them, not because they are American. Many of my favorite fighters are or have been Americans and many of my favorites have not been Americans. It makes no difference to me one way or the other. I am a boxing fan and patriotism and politics play no part in that for me. Kovalev is a top favorite boxer of mine and Ward is not. I will root for Kovalev to knock Ward out.

Well it's just a sign of your social status. As in most poor Americans rock flags.

Go to any high end neighborhood and you will most likely not see any Americans flags in front of their homes.

Doing so actually lowers the property value.

He's proud of his country of origin, just like many Irish-American and Polish-American boxers are.

Some people need to resort to nationalism because there's nothing likable about Ward and his "headbutt and clinch" fighting style.
