Golovkin fans overrate David Lemieux on purpose

dangerous but flawed fighter. top 5 mw in a "meh" era. had some bad losses early in his career but appears to have turned things around. was outclassed and beat up by golovkin, but so was every other fighter he's faced since he came to the states. nobody to write home about, but certainly not a terrible win or fighter.

that golokvin doesn't have a top flight win doesn't' take away from the multitude of contenders he has picked apart, beat up, and knocked out.

That is what separates him from Stevens imo. Stevens could not track N'dam down for the life of him, but Lemieux was able to. Both have fast powerful hands, but Lemieux has much quicker feet than Stevens.

Both guys have some limitations in the world level, there is no denying that.

I didn't expect Lemieux to beat N'dam to the jab yet he did with his much shorter arms and he dodged a lot of punches, he had sloppy moments but it was a good win.

I absolutely agree. Lemieux is mediocre and gets far more credit than he deserves, usually by those looking to legitimize Golovkin's resume.
The job HBO did shilling this guy, and Golovkin by proxy, in that recent fight against Tapia was outrageously corny and sad.

I don't see anybody overrating him he is what he is a strong as ****, technically limited puncher.

I don't think its fair holding his losses against him, he was a 21yr old inexperienced kid who wasn't taking his career seriously.
He has bounced back quite well and carved out a pretty good career out of the limited tools he has.

I remember before their fight everyone was dissing Lemieux, saying it was an easy fight for GGG. Someone pointed out that from start to contact Lemieux gets his left hook off pretty quickly, kind of like Danny Garcia, although I don't remember specifically mentioning Garcia. Then we started hearing about how scary DL was because of his left hook, and GGG was going down. Then GGG totally outboxed him and put him down and out in typical GGG style, not with one punch but with a merciless and workmanlike beatdown. Curtis Stevens was going to be a real test; truth was, KO ahead. He softened up Geale to the point even Cotto would fight him, who wouldn't dream of taking on GGG. Cotto had apparently earned the right to refuse to fight somebody that could beat him, then he made the mistake and Canelo beat him. Everybody looks the same against GGG, like lesser fighters, tomato cans, whatever colorful weak nonsense bad writers spit out in defense of whatever weak point they want to make... because he IS that good. And so...
We don't hear anyone saying it's a tough fight for GGG any more, no matter who he fights. The MW division isn't bad, GGG is good. He's fought the few slick guys, he's fought big punchers. Everyone knows he wins now, so they put the division down because there is no other fighter dominating like him in any division. Fact is, he goes up, actually just fights a division up without gaining weight it's likely he runs and ruins the SMW division. I am certainly not Nostradamus, who was a huckster anyway with regard to predictions, but DeGale looks like easy work for him, same with Groves, Jack, who will be moving up, all of 'em, anyone named Dirrell, Bute, whatever... Froch wanted GGG at 172 then chickened out and "permanently" retired. I would like to see the Ramirez fight, I'd like to see lots of fights. Ideally, in GGG's world he gets to fight four times a year. The MW division should be cleaned out now, but the MW fights aren't being made. It is not him at fault. Without the obvious avoidance, which I hate to say is beginning to look conspiratorial, going on, he cleans MW out and then goes for history up higher.
It's meaningless to go through these exercises, people forget but it was actually the same attitude toward Hagler during his career. He had to have guys come up to him to challenge, he fought smaller guys. He wasn't the body type to move up, same as GGG isn't. He lost to Willie The Worm, who was not great... I love that he kicked Tommy Hearns' butt like he did, but Hearns came UP. Get over trying to figure ways to put GGG and the MW division down, fights are only between two guys at a specific time and age and weight. There is no magical translation to say how good a division was at any given time. The reputations that go forward in time are not the same as what was going on in real time. GGG dominating everybody everywhere could put that nonsense to rest, but it likely won't happen because of all the hemming, hawing, wasting a month here, to months there trying to pin down a fight that doesn't happen BECAUSE OF THE OTHER SIDE. He's tried to make fights with bigger guys. They do not want it. And he is getting old, I see it, I'm sure others can too.
And, just in passing, everyone hates hearing Jim Lampley go apespit over anybody. Most irritating and overreaching announcer ever.
