Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia Wants Lightweight Title Bout With Flanagan Next

It was two and a half years between Mikey Garcia's last fight and his fifth-round technical knockout of Elio Rojas this past Saturday. Now he doesn't want to wait long to build on that victory.

Although I'm not a Mikey fan, I'd pick this rusty version to beat Flanagan decisively. Flanagan has done well for himself, but Mikey's entrance into LW will change the hierarchy.

Mikey has dynamite in both hands, his power carries up with him

When Flanagan, who has 12 KOs in 30 fights, comes up, Mikey says "I really want that fight!" because he has some nostalgic connection to the WBO title. Please. What bullisht. When the more dangerous titleholder comes up, he says "if that's who I got to go through, and it's presented to me." Bullisht. Same old Mikey. Path of least resistance. He's even chasing after Flanagan, presenting the fight to Flanagan, but then for the other guy he says, "if that fight's presented to me."

Same old Mikey. We have another Danny Garcia on our hands, just with way more talent. It's going to be fun watching this guy go 70-0 in 70 mismatches. Mayweather you better watch out you have another protege who may compete for your record.

If Mikey want's my sponsorship, he'll fight Flanagan in the UK, in front of his adoring fans. Flanagan is no Frampton, he's crude in comparison, all he has is hometown edge. Watch out for the buttered shoes.

Garcia still needs to really get back in the swing of things so targeting a weak titleholder is fine right now, although there are really not that many tough fights at 135 at the moment perhaps down the road there are.

If Barthelemy was still hanging out at 135 that would be a tough challenge but they seem to be passing like ships in the night in opposite directions so maybe down the road on that.

Rances Barthelemy could fight Amir Imam or Antonio Orozco for a shot at Crawford WBC title

Terry Flanagan & Dejan Zlaticanin are in talks for a unification in the fall

So look for somebody like Denis Shafikov, Bryan Vasquez, Dierry Jean, Adrian Estrella next for Garcia
