Its a few different things. May vs Pac didn't help. failed to entertain. It also didn't help that neither of them passed the torch so to speak. Not making the best fights possible doesn't help. (Nelo vs GGG) UFC does that on the regular. Promotional company cold wars hurt. Keeping fighters away from free tv for so long didn't help either. When you think about it boxing is expensive to watch. Gotta have HBO, Showtime, order PPVs etc etc. (With the exception of PBC which still utilizes Showtime and is fairly new still)

The demise of boxing in the US started when it moved to premium cable.....good for promoters and boxers, but bad for the exposure of the sport. Now there's a similar product with more quick gratification and done much better in terms of production/hype in UFC. It's frankly never gonna be that big in the US again until an american KO artist with an all out style becomes the face of boxing.

In the US boxing has suffered cuz promoters have too much control of the business of boxing and fighters are their investments and they wanna make sure they got maxim value on the biggest, riskiest fights for them. US boxing doesn't give fans what they want, when they want it so with each big fight marinating cycle there are less fans. That's the biggest problem. ABC groups 4 titles don't help anything, but they aren't hurting the sport these days as much as the money over the sport outlook too many promoters have.

If anyone listens to the morning punch in podcast they do street interviews on a regular basis and you really get to see how outdated regular people and sports fans take on boxing is when they ask people some basic**** like name some active boxers and guys are saying SRR, Foreman and ODLH and then get stumped.

Boxing used to be a premier sport in the US, now it's a niche sport. I don't like it, but I accept it. It is what it is.
I actually was happy for may\pac to finally arrive,it was never about the fight just who the better man was

Pointless matchups that lead to nothing is what's killing the sport. All promoters are guilty of this. All guys are doing is circling one another. It's shameful. So, this is turning off long time fans and any outsider who sees this has no interest and why would they? Who wants to watch uncompetitive meaningless fights? Many of us have watched boxing for years and are kind of stuck with it and keep watching hoping that things will get better. But any rational person can see that boxing is absolutely horrible and pointless at this point.

We may have a lot of world champs at the moment but sadly we are missing a special one like froch

tyson - holyfield 1 was a great fight. it delivered. tyson - holyfield 2, looking back, was one of the most compelling events in sports that year.

and nobody saw poopkins and jokes 2. i watched it, and felt like i needed a shower when i was done.

boxing matches, when they get big, are still among the highest grossing and most profitable events in sports. floyd was the hghest paid athlete on the planet for years. and this was a guy who was too evil to get mainstream endorsements. those two got freaking paid.
