Wasn't that rhetorical? By "Mayweather type of payday" I suspect that GGG would have raised $5-10 million while Ward would have earned $15-20+ million, right? To date, it isn't the case -- and it's still a rhetorical question.

Lil G fans blatantly ignore the fact it would have been at 168 and say Lil G would have had to move up 2 divisions. They know Lil G looked like a ***** for not wanting to fight at 168 while calling out others and they try to rewrite history.

The reality is guys like Ward and Golovkin who have been fighting pretty much their entire lives are not scared of anyone. Apprehensive maybe and both trying to make the biggest fights with the least risk. Most boxers have tried that, except for the odd cold blooded dudes like Holyfield and Toney who you kinda believe would fight King Kong for 10 bucks and just 'for the helluva it.'

However I don't think EITHER guy has ever been 'scared' to face the other and for a PBF type payday would probably get the paperwork done in an afternoon.

Even if Golovkin was a welter he would've moved up to 168 lbs to fight Ward for a Floyd-esque type of money.

Of course he would have, which shows just how poorly managed he is. You can't talk risk reward one minute and then talk about someone else being a businessman.

It's not rewriting history. If the fight was signed last year like it should have been it would, or at least should have been at 168. Now, however Ward has stated that he will never go back down to 168. Unless of course Ward is lying and he would drop back down to super middle weight any fight between Ward and Golovkin would be at light heavy or a catchweight below 175 and we both know how people feel about Golovkin offering catchweights to Ward.

Of course he would've taken the fight for big $$$. All they've asked Ward to do the past few years is get back in the ring so they could make it a money fight. They had a meeting years ago with HBO about this. Ward's inactivity is the reason this fight hasn't happened. Even if GGG had signed the lousy contract Ward offered last year, they likely still wouldn't have fought yet.

The reality is, GGG would be outweighed on fight night by well over 10lbs. GGG is a natural MW and Ward was a LHW struggling to make 168 which is why 164 wasn't going to happen. Golovkin is not going to add much significant weight until he commits to moving up to SMW. Any one shot fight he takes now or would've taken in the past (Froch, Chavez Jr., Ward...) would be at a significant weight disadvantage, and as such he's only going to do it for significant $ - PPV. This is all common sense.

I actually had to correct somebody on this thread about the weight. They thought GGG would've had to have went up 20lbs.

Why should GGG go to 155 to fight "WBC middleweight champion"?
