Oscar De La Hoya "In today's boxing the weight is no issue whatsoever"

Just watched the Khanelo preview and Oscar came up with that quote. At 23:40 he talks about how weight was basically meaningless in boxing.

Good, can't wait to see fights like Canelo vs Ward and Rigondeaux vs Anthony Joshua.

That's what you say when your stable is thin and the only way to make meaningful fights is to have 2 big names collide regardless of division.

I get why he would say that as a promoter should say anything to get people to buy their fights, BS or true.

Still how are fighters physically different now so that weight doesn't matter at all. Great bigger man beats great little man is one of the truest boxing cliches.

I don't think promoters should make huge mismatches they have to excuse.

If weight doesn't matter, why does Canelo need to grow into 160lb before fighting Golovkin?

Having a better product would help but even in that case it still needs to be sold. Good product or bad product the promoters job stays the same.

What he said it is hilarious to anyone who even puts a moment of thought into it, so probably not the best route to sell the fight.
