If you bothered to read the rest of the article on Wikipedia, that's a historic definition. They were illegal in South Africa through Apartheid, but they're now apparently basically just a type of bar.

Man South Africa got real hoods unlike these fake American hoods. I watched this other ducomentary about crumping and all of those people in that video were crying about poverty and being broke yet they got cars, actual brick houses, televesion, electricity, expensive clothing, video games, etc etc.

I was like WTF? These *****z supposed to be broke?

Mayn South Africa got real hoods man and these boxers are ****** for going back there after getting out.

I remember when I was a kid we had no video games, pcs, or whatever so we had to go to this spaza shop to play arcade games and on our way there man sometimes we wouldn't even make it there, we'd get our money ripped out of our hands with knives on our throats.

And when we did get there and play, you better not look like you about to lose otherwise some older guy will push you off and say "lemmie beat him for you!" And if you refuse....well.....

It used to be a terrifying experience every time (yet for some reason we kept going there, guess since it was the only place we could play games), I remember this other time this other older ***** asked for some cash on our way there and I said no, then he tried to take it by force and I fought back. Got my ass kicked off course and he threatened to kill me next time I disrespect him, held me at knife length after stomping me.

That's also the day I found out how much of a thug my mother is later that night, lol, but that's a story for another day.

Long story short though, she got back from work that evening, threatened to beat the **** out of me if I didn't tell her why I was so quiet and angry, and then, after telling her, called my cousin and his friend, and we tracked down that guy to a shebeen that same evening.

Was hiding behind my mother when we went there (it's a scary place for a kid) but then when he saw me that guy ran for his life. My cousins chased and caught him, beat the **** out of him, and then, lmao at this part, made him kneel right in front of my mother.

Guy was apologising and **** while my mother lectured him, I thought that's all she gonna do but then she started beating the **** out of him too. Lol, man I was so terrified (Hey, I was kid back then) but I kept a poker face...sort of.


Anyway, the guy kept asking me if my cousin was still around everytime he saw me since then, dunno why but I think he was planning to do something to me. My cousin was gone by then, he'd moved far away, but I would keep lying and mentioning this other place close by, and I would also say he would be coming over soon, or was here last week, just tryna bide my time till I was old enough to face him myself.

So anyway, yeah, any place that has a shebeen in SA you should probably stay away coz it is probably a dangerous area, ninety percent chance. One of old friends is crippled right now coz he was stabbed in such a place, and older bro, who was a cop mind you, is now in jail for armed robbery.

Crazy bad places man these boxers are dumb to go back to these places when they've already gotten out.
