Currently from New Haven Ct. are Chad Dawson and Tremaine "Midget" Williams
Back in the late 70's there was a heavyweight named Kenny Schmidt who fought on the under cards to Marlon Starling.
Far back were the Compo's Eddie & Johnny along with George Fitch, Nathan Mann, Tony Gillo, Kid Chocolate.
Just prior to retiring Gaspar "El Indio" Ortega moved to New Haven were he still resides to this day. His son Mike is a well established referee that works world wide now.
On the amateur side my son was a 5 time State champ, 5 time Regional champ and 3 time National Champ. Probably one of the most decorated amateur from the state.
New Haven was a fight town in the 20's through the 60's and then was revived in the late 70's into the mid 80's. The old New Haven Arena was the home of pro boxing back in the day.
