that'll be a matchup to watch...boom boom wouldve been ripe by then and rafa would be hungrier
Heya Ace!
Boom Boom is a young man in a hurry. In 04 he had 8 fights and in 05, 6. This year, after his May 20 date, there's talk that he's ratcheting up the quality of his opponents and is slated to face Alejandro Montiel in Manila, about a mere month after Bonilla. It's difficult to believe that Rey is looking past Bonilla, but the talk is rife. It's even more difficult to consider that the Montiel match is slated a mere month after the upcoming Bonilla fight. Nonetheless, it is best for the Bautista camp to consider that Montiel has had world championship bids: vs. Mark Johnson and Irene Pacheco. He failed in both but went the distance in each.
Bautista and Rafa have fought one common opponent-- Gerardo Espinoza, who floored Bautista in the second and whom Marquez took out in the 4th. Espinoza is a heavy hitter: 26 KOs in 28 wins. He is the same Espinoza who went the distance against Genaro Garcia, who knocked out Rafa in the the second round in 2000 in a fight in Denver. Garcia today totes a record of 35-4 with 20 stoppages. Samson Dutch Boy Gym, who retired undefeated in 2002, with a record of 43-0-0 (36 KOs), inflicted Garcia's first set back. Cruz Carbajal, Vernie Torres and Jose Rojas were the others. Samson and Carbajal were the only ones able to stop Garcia. Rafa and Garcia have not, as yet, met again.
As for Samson, he never got a crack at a world title under a leading alphabet organization. I don't really know why. He held what was called the WBF version for a long time.
All of Rafa's losses were stoppages. His first-- the record shows-- was a KO in the 8th in the hands of a 33 year old Victor Rabanales, who had earlier lost to Korea's Jung Il Byun (WBC Bantam title), Joichiro Tatsuyoshi (WBC Interem Bantam title), Wayne McCullough (NABF Bantam title), and Nana Konadu (non-title match), then subsequently lost to the Thai champ Sirimongkol Singwangcha, after stopping Marquez and 4 others. Marquez's other stoppage was in the hands of Francisco Mateos (TKO3), who had been TKO'd in the first round by Omar Duarte, and had suffered a decision loss and a PNTS loss before facing Rafa. His record going into that fight was 7-3-2. Rafa was then 12-1. Mateos sports a current record of 20-10, with only a little over half of his wins (11) by KOs.

nice post..actually the montiel fight isnt on ink yet since rey is already with gbp and they are asking too steep a price. but hopefully with big sponsors, it gets to push thru however, there you go with the very little rest time he had to make in between two fights. he was interviwed in manila regarding the knockdown and he said he wasnt hurt that much though its something he really didnt expect, and he came out strong actually after it. yeah boom boom is on the fast track ..ready to railroad the incoming opponents. i hope to tie xcaret to the tracks so he too gets to be run over. lols
Pac definitely opend doors fo otha Pinoys to get some light. This guy definitely has talent. And he is exciting to watch wit alot of power that should only develop too.
I got tickets to go see him fight on May 20...I'll see how good I heard him to be!

Thanks Ace!
I view the KD and subsequent rally to win as indication of Bautista's heart. The story I heard that while young he walked miles after some accident with a stick burried in his skull, going in deep enough to point just mm's off his brain, blood covering his face, is another evidence and is a story out of which legends are woven. That Boom Boom really has strong star potential.
Many of the great ones have tasted the canvass before moving on to greatness. Pac himself had and if Rafa is to be considered on the road to greatness, he too was stopped three times. Rafa even got stopped by Mateos whose KO rate is just to the north of fifty percent. That Rey got it from Espinoza who is on record as having dusted off 26 foes in 28 wins is no shame. Going into that meeting, Bautista had only less than half of the total number of fights Espinoza has had (Bautista-18, Espinosa-37) Espinoza's 8 losses (prior to the Bautista meeting) were to the likes of Rafa, Cruz Carbajal, Genaro Garcia (who had KO'd Rafael Marquez) and the prospect Jose Miguel Aguiniga (twice, first by UD and then by MD.)
Good that they are reconsidering that Montiel meeting. Rey's campaign record in terms of fight frequency is already looking more like Pancho Villa's and Jimmy McLarnin's, than one of a fighter in this decade. If Rey is made to climb the ring at the rate of one fight every three months, he'd have 6 by middle of next year and ready to bid for a title at the age of 21 (his bday, I think is in June?), then face Rafa who shall then be 30 years old or so.
boom boom has a bright future ahead of him if continue to work hard and the only person who says boom aint **** is xcaret so that **** is void he hates everything pinoy so its automatic

Yea xcaret hates, its a given he's gonna go on every pinoy related thread and start saying negative stuff. That assclown should not be paid attention to especially by pinoys because its predictable what he's gonna say, all i know is that im not going on every mexican related thread to start disrespecting everyone cuz im on another level above that clown.
