The best version of Duran won a close decision against a 24 yr old Leonard making his 2nd title defense and who admitted later that he got caught up in the machismo of the event and didn't fight his fight. And even still Leonard was coming on at the end.

5 months later, the 'Duran of New Orleans' was so frustrated by Leonard's movement, counterpunching, and defense that he etched himself in boxing history with his 'No Mas'.

And yet these folks think it is illogical to believe a Mayweather fight wouldn't at least be competitive? I just don't get it.
I will say this though in Duran's defense...that mofo must've fckd a huge chunk of the women in NYC between those bouts, sniffed a good kilo or so, and eaten at every top restaurant worth its name. The tales of his post win endeavors are the thing of legend in the big apple.

        Excuse? More likely.

Obviously you didn't see the fight because he took a knee immediately after he hurt it and mentioned it in the corner

This is a ******ed statement. Roberto Duran lost against every A-level opponent that he faced (Hagler, Leonard, Benitez, etc), except the first fight against Sugar Ray Leonard (Duran lost the second and third fights to Leonard). He is highly overrated. You don't become an all-time great by losing to the best fighters of your era.

A prime Roberto Duran may have been able to outpoint the 38 year-old Mayweather that fought Pacquaio. However, if both were in their primes, especially if they fought at 135, the fight would have ended in only one way -- with Mayweather KTFO of Duran.

nope, it is the plain truth.

At the time some of my family was involved in politics and the word in Latin America was that Duran had to loose cause O Torrijo's brother bet against him.

But i find that north americans prefer to duck their heads like an Ostrich when they are told the truth in the face.

                    Overrated?

His second** defeat was against Leonard (he avenged his loss to Jesus twice), an all-time-great welterweight, 12 years into his professional career. Leonard beat an out-of-shape Duran. Guess what happened when they both fought in peak physical condition? Duran won. That's what people will remember when they look at them at their best. You can't even name 5 people who would beat Leonard at welterweight.

He lost to Hagler? So ****ing what? Duran is not even a true middleweight, yet he moved up from 135 to face that monster of a fighter. He also put up a good fight.

He lost to Thomas Hearns--- yet another/3rd all-time-great. In fact, probably the one person at welterweight nobody would ever want to face if they had the option. Leonard BARELY beat him in a 15 round fight, being behind on the scorecards.

If Duran and Mayweather fought at 135, it would be a close/exciting fight. You really think Floyd would KTFO a guy who's only been KO'd once by Thomas ****ing Hearns? Floyd couldn't even KO Castillo or Sosa @ 135.

                      This is inaccurate.
