Ward has one fight where he clinched too much: Kessler. Every other fight he has been in has a typical amount of clinches or was ugly because the other guy fought ugly (Bika, Rodriguez).

It's such a pathetic excuse that doesn't apply to Ward at all. He actually fights inside, isn't that what people claim to want?

The only thing I can think of is when he ties his opponents arms up and works with the free hand. But that's just a basic little inside fighting trick. You see that in all of the old films from the black and white tapes to Roberto Duran and Bernard Hopkins.

His critics just prefer the cuties that stay at range and land flashy shots.

That ref was such a ***tard. It's also one of the reasons you rarely see anyone fight out of the clinches nowadays, most of the time they don't get the chance because the ref is so quick to stop the action, while other refs will allow it, it's confusing, you don't know what you're gonna be allowed so forget about focusing on being an inside fighter just sharpen your outside skills.

That's what's hard to explain to people. There's a difference between grappling and working inside (what Ward and Hopkins do) versus tying up to prevent inside fighting (what Wlad and Alexander do).

I agree with you that Ward should have taken that fight.

Even though he had numerous tough fights back-to-back, and even though Bute had done nothing to earn it..... simply because Bute had a belt.

I agree with you..... but some guys are calling that a duck LMAO

Ward fought above his weight-class in the Olympics, he signed to fight the best SMW's in a knockout tournament, AND he has signed a Notice of Intent to face Kovalev..... so yea, calling Bute a duck is absurd, especially considering the fact that he got destroyed by a guy who Ward beat easily.

That man is scared of nobody, especially not Bute.

A Ward/Bute fight was never a real option.

Ward didn't believe Bute was a worthy challenger but that's moot because he was injured when the fight was being discussed and couldn't have fought Bute anyway.......props to Froch to stepping in to redeem himself after losing to Ward.

              Was he injured ?

I know he publicly stated if Bute beat 1 top contender he would fight him.

But yea, ridiculous to call that a duck in context of Ward's career.

But it's a little different. I'm agreeing with you that it's ridiculous, while pointing out despite this he holds a MW belt. This adds to the preposterousness of the whole thing.

Ward hurt his hand in the training camp leading up to the Froch fight. He broke the same hand during the actual fight, injury was confirmed and documented.
