Comments Thread For: Algieri: I'm No Gatekeeper, Can Spence Handle The Big Lights?

New York, NY- Chris Algieri has campaigned from junior welterweight and welterweight divisions fighting names like Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, and Ruslan Provodnikov. Now he faces an up and comer who has as much promise as any prospect in boxing currently in Errol Spence, Jr. While many established guys may have shied away at facing Spence, Algieri is sort of a throwback taking on all comers.

If Spence wins this fight, Algieri will become a gatekeeper like it or not.

If Spence loses this fight, then he is the gatekeeper along with Algieri.

That runs both ways. A make or break fight for both I'd say.

You have to respect Algieri I like and admire him but he is not elite, Spence is, Chris has heart and fights anyone but he will be another name fighter for guys like Spence to build records on unless he matches smarter. He needs to fight more Bones and Taylors.

I can't say that this is make or break for Spence considering its his step up. If he comes up short, it'll take a while but they'll rebuild. Loma lost his bout and he kept going.

When Spence isnt able to do to Algieri what hes done to the last few guys, its gonna be funny bcuz the guys who are crowning him already are gonna be like "hes not that good" and will not ONCE question opposition level. That seems to be the trend lately with "fans"..."fans" who rate a fighter over fighters who face and beat better fighters. Completely ignore opposition level ..its gonna show in this fight and theyll still do it.

Possibly so. I think it will be more like a coming out party for Spence though, with Algieri not being devalued too much unless he's blown out.
