I hope Wilder wins this fight. Beating a fighter of Povetkins caliber will look good on his resume. It will not be easy for him though given Povetkin is a talented fighter. I'm sure he can pull it off.

Has Team Wilder announced that they are pulling out? I doubt they will. I can see them trying to convince Team Povetkin otherwise but if he is adamant about Russia than they have no choice and I for one won't support him vacating. The bottom line is that if they really wanted the fight in the U.S., they should have bid more. Too late now. I hope Haymon doesn't miss out on a great sell -- it's almost Rocky IV-esque. Almost. Take the fight in Russia and let's get it on.

still i hope wilder doesnt vacate, but i cant deny that this ish is looking suspect
i know browne just went to russia, but the circumstances are no where near the same here
why is it suspect when a russian does something american fighters do 99.99999% of their careers?

it's not like US boxing judges have a stellar reputation... among the worst really

              Exactly.
All the crying in this thread is ridiculous.
Wilder has all the physical advantages in this fight (he has height, reach, youth and better roids). If Deontay can't beat Povetkin then he'll sure as hell never be able to beat Wlad or Fury. Povetkin is past his best and Wilder should be in his prime at this stage in his career. Wilder fans should stop crying because their boy will have to stand up and face the top fighters eventually. He's had more than enough tune up fights.

Who wants to bet that Wilder will injure his big toe in a skydiving accident, ala Keith Thurman and Chavez Jr., and try to postpone the fight?

There is no timetable on his decision to vacate the title. We should expect to hear his announcement to vacate or his announcement about a fake injury sometime in April.

I don't think he will, because he needs to save his reputation, not destroy it even further

But possibly, he could claim injury so that Povetkin become interim-WBC champion (just like Golovkin) and the WBC will take their sweet time in setting up another purse bid, by allowing for negotiations that will last for months with no movement... giving Wilder another 2 or 3 shabby voluntary defences against sub-top20 opponents as he's been doing. Its possible, but like I said I don't think he will.
